UPDATE 3 p.m.

MOSES LAKE — One person died Tuesday in a collision involving a passenger car and a tractor-trailer at the intersection of Road 3-NE and Road U-NE in rural Moses Lake, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

Emergency crews responded to the crash shortly before 12:30 p.m. Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Kyle Foreman said the collision involved one occupant in the passenger car and one occupant in the tractor-trailer. The driver of the passenger car died at the scene. The tractor-trailer driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The intersection remained closed Tuesday afternoon as of 3 p.m. as investigators worked to determine the cause of the collision. Officials said the closure was expected to last several hours.

The identity of the deceased driver has not been released pending notification of family members.

Foreman described the crash as a tragic incident and urged motorists to drive safely.

“This is a very sad collision,” Foreman said. “Just like all of the collisions we handle, we want to remind motorists to please obey posted speed limits in order to prevent the possibility of future collisions like this one.”

Because a commercial vehicle was involved, the Washington State Patrol sent commercial vehicle inspectors to assist with the investigation, Foreman said.

Foreman also praised the agencies that responded to the scene, including Grant County Fire District No. 5, Lifeline Ambulance, Grant County Public Works, the Grant County Coroner’s Office, MACC 911 and the Washington State Patrol.

“The first responders from Fire District 5, Lifeline Ambulance and Public Works all worked seamlessly to take care of people, close roads and help us spread the word about traffic safety,” Foreman said.

Authorities said additional information about the collision is expected to be released Wednesday. The investigation remains ongoing.
