It’s time to lace up the saddle shoes and take a swing back in time during the Stumptown Historical Society sock hop on Saturday, Oct. 17.

The event is from 7-10 p.m. at the Whitefish Moose Lodge at 230 W. 10th St. with free professional swing dance lessons at 6:30 p.m.

There will be contests with prizes, a DJ, drinks at the bar, a silent auction and ice cream scoops, courtesy of Scouts Troop 1936. Tickets are $25 – collectible event button included – and ages 16-plus are encouraged to come. Costumes reminiscent of the 1950s are not required but will add to the fun.

“Besides supporting the Historical Society, it’s to feel a part of Whitefish again,” said Jill Evans, Stumptown Historical Society director. “It’s an old-fashioned event for regular people. People can come, have a really good time, not spend a bunch of money and feel like they belong in Whitefish.”

Funds raised from the event will go toward the purchase of a new roof for the historic Whitefish Depot, which is owned and maintained by the Historical Society. Evans said the anticipated cost to replace the roof is roughly $150,000.

A generous couple has offered to match half of the cost of the roof. The Historical Society has raised about $20,000 and hopes to meet its goal of about $75,000 by the end of its 2027 sock hop.

Evans was thrilled with the success of the sock hop in the inaugural year. The 2025 rendition had a turnout of over 100 people and raised about $7,000.

Tickets for the sock hop can be purchased at the door or in advance at stumptownhistoricalsociety.org/event-details/2nd-annual-sock-hop-raise-the-roof-2.
