The Whitefish golf team held strong against some of the best teams in the state, Class AA included, at the Flathead Invite on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 9-10. The Bulldogs' busy week on the greens continued with team sweeps at the Libby Invite on Saturday.  

Playing at the Buffalo Hill Golf Club in Kalispell, the Whitefish girls took second in the two-day Flathead Invite with 697 points, behind only Gallatin (666). Polson was third at 767. The Whitefish boys placed sixth at 632; Polson was the only Class A team ahead in second at 608.  

Mason O’Neil (73-77—150) and Zack Schmid-Sommer (74-76—150) led the Bulldogs with an eighth-place tie.  

Karlee Brown led the Lady Dawgs with silver honors, shooting 81-78—159 behind only Hamilton's Cameron Burnett (155). Jillian Wagner took seventh in 80-91—171.  Rhylee Scott also landed in the top 15 in 86-93—179.  

On Saturday at the Cabinet View Golf Club in Libby, Brown was three over par to take gold at 75, including a birdie on no. 4. Scott nailed silver by shooting 80. Caroline Owens took eighth (94). The girls took the team title at 371 over Polson's 379.  

The boys on Saturday continued the competition with Polson, this time coming out on top with 306 to the Pirates' 308. O'Neil again lead the charge with on-par 72, good for silver. Zack Schmid-Sommer tied for eighth (77), Calvin Lerud tied for tenth (78) and Nick Schmid-Sommer took 12th (79). Cash Cole stepped up for the Dawgs to tie 13th (81).  

The golf season is charging ahead, with Whitefish taking on the Polson Invite early this week, where they got a Divisionals course preview, and the Hamilton Invite on Saturday. Class A Divisionals is Sept. 26.
