COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho — Eastern Washington men's golf stayed local this week, heading to Idaho to host the CDA National Invite at CDA National Reserve. EWU placed 8th in the tournament, shooting 877.
Emilio Gil Leyva Llamas paired together three great rounds according to EWU athletics, with a first day 74 (+2), second day 71 (-1), and a third day 74 (+2). Gil Leyva finished his tournament tied for 17th.
Leyva Llamas earned Big Sky Golfer of the Week honors for his efforts at the CDA National Reserve Invitational. Gil Leyva shot +3 (219) during the two-day competition at the CDA National Reserve in Coeur d'Alene.
The senior recorded nine birdies during the tournament, with five recorded in the second round. Gil Leyva shot a 71 in the second round, ripping off four of his birdies on the back nine.
The Culican, Mexico native closed the CDA National with a 72, shooting three birdies.
Gil Leyva transferred to Eastern in the offseason from the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley. He spent three seasons in Edinburg, Texas, competing for the Vaqueros, earning multiple top-30 finishes.
The Eagles continued to find success on the course as Freshman Carson Krauss shot his best collegiate and lowest round for the Eagles; during his second round, he finished with an impressive -4 to propel him up the leader board into a T-12. Krauss finished in a tie for 29th.
Traejan Andrews had a solid tournament as well, finishing tied for 29th with Krauss. Andrews’ final round was in the red numbers with a 70 (-2).
Eli McNelly and Cal Anderson both tied for 47th as well, finishing their tournament eight over par.
Saint Mary's (CA) shot 857 (-7) to claim the team title. Oregon State's Davis Hartwell claimed the solo title, shooting a 208 (-8).
EWU's 8th place finish at the CDA National Reserve was also its first home tournament since resuming Division I competition. It was the first D1 tournament in the area in over 20 years.
The Eagles are off this week but resume competition on Oct. 5 at the Oregon State Invitational. The tournament runs from Oct. 5 through Oct. 6 at the Trysting Tree Golf Course.

Wildcats Begin New Era with Championship Expectations
ELLENSBURG — As the Central Washington Wildcats enter fall camp, they also embark on the beginning of a new chapter, according to CWU Athletics. After winning the 2025 GNAC championship and reaching the NCAA West Regional semifinals, the Wildcats enter the 2026 season with a roster loaded with experience, talent and championship aspirations. Lauren Herseth takes over as head coach after serving as the program's associate head coach for the last five seasons, following the departure of Mario Andaya to become CWU's Deputy Director of Athletics. Herseth will be joined by assistant coach Hannah Stires, a former standout Wildcat player who returns to the Wildcats.
