The wines of Kermit Lynch Imports

We, like most everyone in this area, truly enjoy domestically produced wines especially those from our wonderful Northwest wineries. Also though we feel one of the truly great things about wine is the regional differences of wines produced in other parts of the world. Enter Kermit Lynch! Since the early 1970s when Kermit opened his retail wine shop in California and began importing small production wines from Europe he has created and built one of the great wine portfolios in the industry.

Appellation matters

Our shop has been open nearly four and a half years now and when we first started putting together the wine collection, admittedly my knowledge of the Northwest appellations could be held in a thimble.

The families of the Appellation Wine Company

Niven, Graff, Smith, Rosenthal - some of the families that are part of the Appellation Wine Company, a grouping of third and fourth generation grape growing families from the central coast of California that produce a wide ranging and delicious assortment of wines. Scott Woodward from AWC was in town this past weekend for a winemaker dinner at Scratch in Spokane, and a tasting here at the shop and it was a treat.

Wine and Rock & Roll

A couple of months back I was having a conversation in the shop with one of our customers, Steve. He is a fascinating guy, always has a smile on his face, always seems like he doesn’t have a care in the world even when he does. In addition to his day job, he also plays the drums with a couple of local bands. Steve seems to me to have a pretty darn good command of music and I know he loves wine, in fact the license plate on his truck is “wine”.

Is it worth it?

Believe it or not, this is one of the most frequent questions we get in our day-to-day work as wine professionals. As most wine shops do, we have bottles from under $10 all the way up to prices we don't talk about much; but let's just say they have both a comma and a decimal point in the price. That is the nature of the wine business, there is something made for every palate preference and every budget requirement.

Narrowing the field

We have often mentioned that many weeks, we taste 40 or 50 wines. Our great group of local distributors does a wonderful job of putting new wines and new vintages of wines in front of us that we already know. Couple this regular flow with winemakers and importers who periodically come through town to keep us updated on all the wines they have to offer, and no wonder the numbers reach that high.
