Award offered in alleged animal cruelty case

A possible act of animal cruelty was discovered near Libby when, on Jan. 7 at 3:30 p.m., a Forest Service Officer found a cat-carrier box riddled with holes from a birdshot shot from a shotgun. The cat, an orange shorthair with a shortened tail, was found frozen and shot a few feet away, according to Cory Cromer of Animal Control.

Bear attacks unsuspecting hunting partner

THOMPSON FALLS - On September 10 FWP Wardens responded to and investigated a report of a wounded black bear that injured a man near Thompson Falls. According to the reporting party an archery hunter was hunting elk in a drainage located off Prospect Creek when the hunter observed a black bear. The hunter was also licensed to hunt black bear and took a shot at the bear with his bow.
