COEUR d'ALENE - We're not done yet.
KTEC: Not cheap, but costs shared
For the past four years I have sat on SD 271's Long Range Planning Committee as a concerned citizen and an interested parent. I have seen the condition of the schools in our district and understand the needs for improvement to get many of them to a common standard. In general, the facilities are barely adequate but not efficient.

Where is the outrage over Rush Limbaugh?
Rush Limbaugh is a truly despicable person and a racist. Just this week, in discussing the competition for the Democratic minority whip position in the next Congress between Steny Hoyer (white) and James Clyburn (black), he suggested that Clyburn could retain his perks by “Driving Miss Nancy.” It was an unmistakable reference to the great movie, Driving Miss Daisy, in which Morgan Freeman played a chauffeur for an aristocratic Southern woman.
No-kill policy is a good idea gone bad
This is a wake-up call for the Panhandle Animal Shelter's “no kill” policy. A monster has been created. Your good intentions have sadly gone beyond bad.

The Other Side of Marc Racicot
I was amused by the recent letters to several papers from former governor Marc Racicot in regards to the Patriot Act. He defends it and supports its renewal and condemns the Montana legislature for passing a resolution against it. This begs a few questions: How much is the Bush administration paying him to do this and why should we trust this man?

Flathead National Forest officials last week were monitoring a wild fire in the Bob Marshall Wilderness near Big Prairie but allowing it to burn.

It's snow fun when the cops show
Snow drew out the frisky side of some residents Tuesday night, requiring Kalispell police to stop the fun. A resident on Sherry Lane complained that someone launched a snowball at the house. To loud sledders at Dry Bridge Gulch at 10:30 p.m.: Leave. To the ninja snowball fighters on Rising Sun Circle at 11:30: Keep it down. To the snowball-fight sequel on Main Street after midnight: Go home.
Landfill fire sparked by embers
A Sunday night fire at the Flathead County Landfill north of Kalispell didn’t cause any damage, but serves as a reminder that barbecue and wood-stove ashes can rekindle and catch garbage receptacles on fire, waste management said.
