Disagreement with the plans for a new City Hall seems to have received more press than has agreement, and this letter is in support of the council.

I think the new City Hall should be a symbol of the town, functional, attractive, and enduring and remain in the heart of town. During the past 20 years I have been favorably impressed by the city governance and the ability of the mayors and councils to deal with growth and the pressure of developers and to enhance the beauty of the small town I grew up in. I see no reason not to continue my confidence and support.

I am happy to pay taxes for civic improvement, such as putting power lines underground instead of overhead. I do not, however, believe that the city taxpayers should subsidize water and sewer lines for those who refuse to join the city.

As to bona fides, I arrived in Whitefish in 1931, graduated from WHS in 1944, and have owned property continually in or around Whitefish since 1948 (including lake lots on the east shore of Whitefish Lake for many years), so I am a taxpayer of long standing.
