Mailer more to arouse than inform

A color mailer to the residents of Whitefish asks us to vote out Frank Sweeney and Richard Hildner. Some of the language seems more to arouse than to inform.

The mailer states that the new city hall will be at a “prime location,” as though that were undesirable. It has always been at a prime location. It states that the building is 39,000 square feet, not qualifying that the larger part of the building is a parking garage. It refers to it as a “luxury” city hall, but from what I have observed all government office buildings that are not pre-fabs are labeled “luxury” or “Taj Mahals” before they are built.

Whitefish is much in need of more downtown parking, and the most efficient way to obtain it is by building a centrally located parking garage. Parking garages tend to be both large and ugly. Combined with a City Hall, its bare ugliness I trust will be mitigated.

We have been fortunate to have city councilors who have devoted so much time and effort to addressing this and other problems of our growing city. They deserve our vote.

The spirit of Whitefish lives on

I was happy to read in the Sept.16 Pilot that the curfew siren will sound again when the new City Hall is completed.

City Hall a symbol of town

Disagreement with the plans for a new City Hall seems to have received more press than has agreement, and this letter is in support of the council.
