Audition dates announced for Masquers fall musical

SOAP LAKE — Auditions are scheduled for Aug. 14 and 15 for the fall musical presented by the Masquers Theater company. Auditions for “Once on this Island” will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 14 and 6 p.m. Aug. 15 at the theater, 322 East Main St., Soap Lake.

Performances will be on weekends from Oct. 21 through Nov. 13, with Friday and Saturday night shows and a Saturday matinee. According to a Masquers press release, actors auditioning will be asked to sing and do some dance steps. The show features actors 18 years and older, with parts for two younger teens.

“Once on this Island” tells the story of Ti Moune, who saves the life of, and falls in love with, a young man. But some love stories have sad endings.

The play premiered on Broadway in 1990, written by Lynn Ahrens with music by Stephen Flaherty. Stacey and Clifford Bresee are the directors for the Masquers production.

ROYAL CITY — Four people were killed and five injured, one critically, when a passenger car collided with a truck about eight miles north of Royal City Tuesday afternoon.
