Blocking out a priority for Horsemen

Blocking out is a priority for Plains boys basketball coach Tyrel Allen right now.
It’s not like that he is trying to block out the memory of Friday’s 57-47 loss to the visiting Darby Tigers Friday, but he is trying to remind his young Horsemen how important blocking out for rebounds is in playing winning basketball.
“We have to block out better, to limit our opponents’ second shots,” Allen offered. “That’s kind of what killed us against Darby. Once we figure it out and start blocking out better, we will be a lot better off.”
Allen wasn’t complaining about the effort his young team is giving him, he just hopes to see growth in the team rebounding department.
“We are a very sophomore-heavy team with fairly limited varsity experience so it is going to take some time,” he said. "Once we play together more, clean up some things in a few areas, we will be fine.”
Cooper Meredith played some fine basketball Friday in leading the Horsemen against Darby with a double double of 10 points and 10 rebounds, Jarrett Weeks and Chase DePoe added nine points apiece and Jackson Revier eight.
Jordan Browning scored a game-high 25 points to lead coach Richard Griffin’s Darby Tigers.
Now 0-3 in non-conference play, the Horsemen have two more non-con games on tap this week playing Loyola in Missoula Tuesday and hosting Lincoln Friday in their final action of 2025.
