Noxon hosts two games this week

The Noxon Red Devil boys, after graduating eight seniors off last year’s very, very good basketball team, is looking for a new identity.

Coach Trever Kayser guided his almost brand-new Red Devils in a 66-46 loss to visiting Valley Christian in Noxon Saturday. Now 0-3 on the season, the Devils have two home games this week, hosting St. Regis Friday and wrapping up play for 2025 hosting Troy Saturday.

Kayser said things looked good early for the Devils against Valley Christian, but that their inexperience showed through by the end.

“We got a good lead early but couldn’t keep it,” Kayser said. “We fell into some bad habits and then couldn’t fight our way back. We still have some things to figure out, need to learn how to play better with each other.”

Kayser is not discounting his team’s ability to compete. “We have some talent,” he said, “can play with anybody on the right night.”

Shane Hatchel led Noxon against Valley Christian with 24 points, and coach’s sons Justice, a senior, and Guthrie, a sophomore, added 16 and six points each, respectively for the Red Devils.

Nick Karavandi scored 19 points for Valley Christian.
