Practice? Who needs practice?

Playing a game at Charlo without much practice going in due to the power outages affecting the Superior area last week, coach Jake McElroy’s Bobcat boys registered their first District 14C conference basketball win of the season, stopping the Vikings 68-61 in Charlo Saturday.

Now 1-0 in 14C play and 1-2 overall, the Bobcats return to action hosting Alberton Jan. 3 in Superior.

McElroy liked what he saw from his boys in the win at Charlo, in spite of a lack of practice time due to power outages.

“We didn’t have power at the school, couldn’t practice Wednesday or Thursday, Friday was the only day we were able to practice,” McElroy said. “It was a great game in Charlo, down to the wire, and our kids stepped up to the moment. It was a good win, I’m very proud of this team.”

Henry Hanson bucketed 19 points to key the Bobcats’ conquest of the Vikings, Amarie Johnson added 16, Gannon Quinlan 10, Phin Cataldo eight, Landers Richards seven, Logan Merrill six and Conrad Talbot two.

Karson Cox led Charlo with 19 points, T. Brown added 17 and R. Hait 11.

Power outages notwithstanding, McElroy says the Bobcats have some practice sessions scheduled over the holiday bread.

To say the Lady Hawks’ shooting in Saturday’s 41-31 loss to the Blackhawks in Seeley Lake Saturday was bad is a dry understatement.
