Color it Bobcat blue and red and call it another special season.

Coach Jeff Schultz and his Superior Bobcat football team completed their successful 7-3 season with a 54-12 loss to unbeaten Flint Creek in Drummond Saturday in the first round of the 2025 Montana 8-Man playoffs.

Moving on to face Belt this weekend, Flint Creek, the Southern division regular season champions, will also host that quarterfinal game. The Titans are one of the favorites in the race for Montana 8-Man title for a reason Schultz said.

“Flint Creek is a very good team, well-coached and they execute well,” he said. “We had a few chances in the first half but weren’t able to capitalize. Flint Creek capitalized on their opportunities, were able to execute when they needed to.”

Schultz said the Bobcats actually had a chance to grab the lead late in the first half but Flint Creek held Superior out of the end zone and then marched in for a quick score to gain breathing room heading into intermission.

The Bobcats had a tough row to hoe as the fourth seed out of the Western Conference in any event. A tough opening game loss to St. Regis way back in August put the ‘Cats behind the 8-ball the rest of the season. Their biggest win of the campaign for Superior was over a very good Darby squad, a victory that ended up being the one that got them into the playoff picture.

Austin Knoeller led Flint Creek, the successful co-op between Philipsburg and Drummond with two touchdowns as the Titans improved to 10-0 with the win.

Phin Cataldo and Landon Richards scored touchdowns for Superior in Drummond.

Schultz expressed gratitude to his players and to the Superior community for their outstanding support.

“I’m going to miss our seniors,” he said of Brydon Drey, Wyatt Post, George Hanson, Sam Doughty, Logan Merrill and Cataldo. “They are not only good players, they are good kids.”

Schultz saved his biggest thanks for Bobcat nation. “We would like to shout out a big thank you to the parents and community. They did a spectacular job of making this a special season for the team. It makes it kind of sad that it’s all over, we would love to still be playing for them.”
