Hawks hesitate and Falcons take advantage

He who hesitates is lost, especially on the football field.
Beating the Blue Hawks to the punch most of the game, the visiting Florence Falcons knocked off Thompson Falls 56-0 on Previs Field Friday.
Now 0-2 in Western B play and 1-4 overall, coach Jared Koskela and his Blue Hawks officially have the week off before returning to play hosting winless Deer Lodge back on Previs Field October 10.
Between now and then, Koskela said the Hawks will go back to work on a few things. “We have got to be quicker off the ball,” he said. “We seemed to have stone-foot against Florence, we were consistently a step too late, and that killed us all night.
“We’ll be going back to the basics in practice and hope to have some things ironed out by the time we meet Deer Lodge,” he added.
Although the game didn’t go the Hawks’ way, there was no lack of individual effort by the Thompson Falls boys who were facing a jacked-up team of Florence Falcons who were hungry for a win after an uncharacteristic 0-3 start to the season.
Brylon VanElswyk led the Hawk defense with 11 tackles, including six unassisted, Michael Koskela made eight stops with five solo tackles and a tackle for a loss, Jason Myers eight tackles with four unassisted and a tackle for a loss, Mason Park six tackles with three solo, Carson Kenney added five tackles with one solo and Jesse Buchanan four stops with one unassisted.
Bridger Alexander scored three touchdowns for Florence, two on runs and the other on a pass reception, Levi Winters scored touchdowns on a punt return and a reception and Brody Duchein tossed a pair to touchdown passes for the 1-3 Falcons.
