Hawks upended by Lions; host Bulldogs for Pink Night

Don’t forget the losses, but don’t dwell on them either.
The Eureka Lady Lions came into town and downed the Lady Hawks 25-22, 25-22, 25-18 Saturday and Thompson Falls coach Sandra Kazmierczak says the Hawks took a few lessons learned from the tough match.
Up this week, the Lady Hawks will hold their annual Pink Night match Tuesday while hosting District 7B foe Mission, and will play a non-conference match at Deer Lodge Thursday. Thompson Falls fans are urged to join the Falls girls in wearing pink in support of the Hawks’ breast cancer support night Tuesday.
Reportedly unbeaten in regular season action so far, the Lions kept the Hawks off-balance defensively, in large part due to the fine setting of Eureka junior Sophie Vaughn. “We need to work on our blocking more,” Kazmierczak said. “We didn’t play our normal game against Eureka, like we were a little out of rhythm most of the match.”
In spite of playing slightly off-key, the Hawks still had their chances in each set but just couldn’t quite seem to find the right notes at the right times. “We seemed a little tight in the match,” Kazmierczak offered, “we didn’t seem to be having fun out there like we normally do.”
Gabi Hannum led the Hawks with another fine all-around showing against Eureka, hitting 10 kills, blocking two shots, bumping up 12 digs and spiking an ace, Addy Deal wasn’t far behind with seven kills, three blocks, four digs and an ace, Addi Pardee added three kills and 12 digs, Annalise Fairbank six kills, six digs and an ace, Emma Claridge two kills and thee dogs and freshman setter Audrey Fairbank 22 set assists.
In other action last week, the Lady Hawks made sweet net music and had fun together in battling past Troy 25-16, 25-20, 25-18 in Troy Tuesday.
Hannum hammered down 10 kills, three blocks and an ace to lead the Falls girls, Deal dealt out nine Ks, four blocks and two aces, Audrey Fairbank 17 set assists and four aces, Pardee added five aces (“And great defensive play,” Kazmierczak said), Annalise Fairbank four more kills and Claridge two.
