Bobcats bounce Horsemen; prep for Arlee next
JOHN HAMILTON | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 month, 3 weeks AGO
Looking like a team that’s headed for the playoffs more every day, the Superior Bobcats ran past the Plains Horsemen 48-6 in Superior Friday.
Now 5-2 in Western conference 8-Man play and overall, coach Jeff Schultz and his Bobcats are set to visit the Arlee Warriors this Friday before concluding regular season play hosting Victor October 24.
Locked in a three-way tie for second with St. Regis and Darby, all with 5-2 marks, behind 7-0 Seeley-Swan, it appears that the Bobcats will make the playoffs as the top four teams from the conference all move on. Schultz does not want a let-down from his boys at this late stage, however.
“We still have a lot of stuff to clean up, fundamentals that we still need to work on,” he said. “We did some good things against Plains, but we can still definitely get better and cannot let up now. Arlee is a dangerous team and Victor is very physical. We need to keep our focus on being sharp and executing well these next few weeks.”
The undermanned Horsemen played well in spite of their low numbers Friday, Schultz offered. “They only had eight players to begin with and then they were down to seven,” he said. “But kudos to them, they showed up, wanted to play and played hard the whole way. They did a good job.”
The usual suspects did most of the damage for Superior. Turner Milender rushed for 65 yards and scored three touchdowns on offense for the Bobcats while pulling down eight tackles, including two quarterback sacks on defense.
Gannon Quinlan rushed for 20 yards and a touchdown, caught three passes for 65 yards and returned an interception for a touchdown, and Landon Richards completed five passes for 113 yards and ran for another score. Normally a lineman, George Hanson even got in on the scoring fun with a rare touchdown run of his own early in the game.
Tyler Mellen added six takles on defense for the Bobcats, including two more quarterback sacks, and Logan Merrill added three more tackles and yet another QB sack.
