Bohn leads Tigers to homecoming win over Arlee

It was a homecoming game to remember for the St. Regis Tigers, especially for junior Nathan Bohn, who led the boys in green and white to a convincing 62-26 win over the visiting Arlee Warriors Friday.

Bohn did everything but sell popcorn in the big game, with impressive efforts on both sides of the ball, racking up five touchdowns scored – three on pass receptions from Conner Lulis and the other two on kick returns – and pulling down a team-high 12 tackles, with 10 unassisted, on defense.

“Nathan took the opening kick back 60 yards and got things rolling early on,” St. Regis coach Jesse Allan said. “Early in the second half, Isaac Kelly made one heck of a play on another kick return, pitched it back, and Nate took it in 35 yards for the touchdown.”

Bohn and Kelly were not the only St. Regis players out to excite the homecoming crowd in Tiger-town Friday. Quarterback Lulis completed 16 of 29 passes for 216 yards and five touchdowns, in addition to carrying the ball four times for 37 yards, and recording eight tackles on defense, with six of those solo.

Tucker Desoto ran the ball four times for 60 yards and a touchdown, caught two passes for 37 yards and another TD, and pulled down seven tackles with five unassisted and one for a loss.

Barrett Bessette caught four passes for 52 yards and a touchdown, besides rushing six times for another 25 yards and registering 11 tackles with eight unassisted, including two tackles for a loss and a fumble recovery on the defensive side.

Kelly caught three passes for 33 yards and added five tackles from the defensive side. Freshman Damian Bosson got some snaps at quarterback and completed three of four passes for 25 yards, adding six solo tackles on defense.

Denver Thomas had nine tackles with four unassisted and grabbed an interception, Sterling Gray chipped in with four tackles, including three solo stops and a tackle for a loss, Chet Hill had five tackles with three unassisted and Jax Simkins added an assisted tackle.

Coach Allan said the entire Tiger squad played well against Arlee.

“Our defense had two big stops in the red zone and we were able to turn both into points to stretch the lead early in the first half,” he said. “Conner and our receivers continue to build chemistry and we are doing our best to make teams pay for stacking the box.”

Allan complimented the Warriors. “Arlee is battling some of the same things we are, youth and inexperience,” he said, “but they never quit and battled to the end.”

It appears that the Tigers, Darby and Superior could be heading for a three-way tie for second place in the Western 8-Man conference behind unbeaten, No. 6 in the state Seeley-Swan. Allan said that in the event of such a tie in the final standings, that points between the tied teams would settle seeding for the playoffs.

Right now, that scenario would leave St. Regis in second place for the first round of the playoffs, although two games remain on the regular season schedule. The Tigers will complete regular season action with a game at Victor Saturday and with the season finale against Charlo in St. Regis October 24.
