Tigers take down Pirates, host Charlo on Friday

Firming up their probable playoff position, the St. Regis Tigers took down the Victor Pirates 46-6 in Western C 6-Man football action in Victor Saturday.
Now 6-2 in conference play and overall, coach Jesse Allan and his Tigers will wrap up regular season play hosting Charlo Friday.
Allan was pleased with his Tigers’ efforts in Victor and looks forward to this week’s game with Charlo.
“Victor plays a pretty physical brand of football, our guys responded well,” he said, “and we were able to get the job done. Charlo is big up front and they like to chew clock with their running game,” Allan added. “We’re going to have to do our best to get them off the field and capitalize when we have the ball.”
Allan thought defense was key to the big win in Victor. “Our defense had five takeaways (three fumbles, two interceptions) and recovered an onside kick as well,” he said. “We kept Victor from gaining any momentum and let our offense control most of the game.”
Barrett Bessette turned in another rock-solid defensive effort with a team-high 11 tackles including eight unassisted takedowns, recording a quarterback sack, two tackles for losses and recovering a fumble.
Tucker Desoto pulled down 10 tackles with four solo stops, in addition to grabbing an interception and recovering a fumble, Denver Thomas and Conner Lulis had five tackles apiece with three solo each, Sterling Gray made four tackles with three unassisted, Nate Bohn picked off a pass and Isaiah Labelle got a quarterback sack.
On the other side of the ball, Lulis completed 11 of 16 passes for 127 yards and three touchdowns, and Isaac Kelly completed his only pass of the game for 26 yards and a touchdown.
Bessette packed the pigskin four times for 89 yards and two TDs, adding three pass catches for 29 yards and another touchdown, Desoto ran the ball three times for 28 yards
and caught four passes for 41 yards with a touchdown, and Bohn caught two passes for 34 yards and a TD.
The Tigers built a 14-0 lead over Victor after one quarter, extended the advantage to 34-0 by halftime, and closed out scoring with 12 points in the third quarter.
Allan said he and his team is looking forward to the rest of the season, which could include a rare home game in the first round of the playoffs, something St. Regis has not enjoyed since some time in the early 2000’s.
“We are excited for next week's game, we have to take care of that first,” he said of Friday’s game with Charlo, which will double as senior night in St. Regis. “It’s an opportunity to honor our senior boys and hopefully wrap up the regular season with a win.”
