Bobcats adjust, cruise by Troy Trojans

Football is a game of adjusting, to opponents and to your own strengths and weaknesses.
Making some adjustments following a tough season-opening loss to St. Regis the week before, the Superior Bobcats blitzed the visiting Troy Trojans 68-20 in Superior Friday.
Now 1-1 in Western C 8-Man play, coach Jeff Schultz and his Bobcats go to Charlo for a date with the Vikings this Friday.
Schultz gave assistant Charlie Crabb, the defensive coach, the lion’s share of credit for the turnaround against Troy. “Coach Crabb adjusted our schemes on defense a bit, put some different kids in different spots,” Schultz said. “And it paid off big time Friday, we got off to a good start and played well all night.”
Reaping the most adjustment benefit was junior Turner Milender, who turned in a monster game for the Bobcats. Besides rushing the ball for 93 yards and three touchdowns offensively, Milender was an absolute terror on the defensive side, pulling down a team-high 14 tackles, recording three quarterback sacks and forcing a fumble.
Logan Merrill, Jack Kemp and Landon Richards were also defensive stalwarts for Superior, Merrill with seven tackles including a QB sack plus an interception for a pick-six for a touchdown, Kemp with four tackles including two more sacks, and Landon Richards with four more tackles.
Schultz said the Bobcats’ overall offensive numbers were not that impressive, ironically because of the effective Superior D. “You would think we would have some big numbers with 68 points, but that wasn’t the case,” he said. “The defense was good enough to give us a lot of short fields to work with, and we were able to take advantage.”
