Watch out when the Lady Hawks get the old gym rocking.

Declaring an on-site Hawk block party and getting the place hopping at TFHS gym Tuesday night, Thompson Falls fought back from a 2-1 set deficit to come back and defeat the visiting Loyola Sacred Heart Breakers 25-23, 19-25, 16-25, 25-16, 15-13 in front of an excited and decidedly hot home crowd.

Now 1-1 in non-conference action after falling to Florence in Florence Thursday, the Hawks open 7B conference play at Mission this Thursday, before hosting Stillwater Christian in another non-conference match Saturday.

The old TFHS gym was not only rocking Tuesday for the match with Loyola, it was also almost other-worldly hot in there as a late summer heat wave invaded the place. Taking advantage of the heat and the excitement generated by their large and loud high school fan base, the Hawks stunned the Breakers with a late game surge.

“That was exciting, the fans really helped fire us up and the girls raised their games,” coach Sandra Kazmierczak said. “We played well when it counted, are very happy with the win.”

As the Thompson Falls home crowd fanned the flames urging their team on, the Lady Hawks, largely behind Addy Deal and Gabi Hannum, took over control of the net at match’s end.

Deal clobbered 13 kills, recorded a stuff block, hit three aces and came up with 13 digs, while Hannum was equally effective, putting down 13 kills, stuff blocking four Loyola kill attempts, smacking four aces and hitting nine digs.

Addi Pardee contributed five kills, a block, four aces and nine digs, Annalise Fairbank two Ks, a block and four digs, Emma Claridge a kill, an ace, five digs and the match-winning service point, and freshman Marley Robinson four big digs, a few of them at key junctures.

Another freshman, Audrey Fairbank capably directed the Hawk attack with 25 set assists, in addition to hitting four aces and a kill, and stuff blocking two Loyola kill attempts.
