Bobcats bull past 'Dogs; host Darby Friday

Don’t forget about the Bobcats.
Coach Jeff Schultz and his Bobcats reminded the rest of the teams in Montana 8-Man football not to turn their backs on Superior just yet by going into Mission and knocking off the previously unbeaten Bulldogs, ranked No. 9 in the most recent State 8-Man power poll, 60-36.
Now 3-1, the Bobcats are set to host the 4-0 Darby Tigers Friday in Superior’s annual homecoming game.
Friday’s big win in the Dog Pound at Mission is just a reminder to the other 8-Man teams that there’s still a lot of the 2025 season left and the Bobcats are still standing, and fighting their way through the season, hopefully all the way to the playoffs by the time they are done.
After facing Darby this week, Schultz and the Bobcats will go on to meet Seeley-Swan, another very good team, so-far unbeaten, ranked in the top 10, on the road next week.
“This is a brutal three-game stand against very good teams for us,” he said. “We look forward to seeing Darby Friday and Seeley next week, these are important games for sure.”
Since only four of the ten teams in the conference qualify for the playoffs, every win will count, especially since the Bobcats already have one conference loss.
The game in Mission Friday turned on physicality, Schultz offered. “We were not matching Mission’s physicality in the first half,” he said. “They were running their big backs right at us and we needed to step it up a notch on defense. Fortunately, we were able to do that in the second half.”
Schultz said it was a solid team effort by the Bobcats in Mission that turned the tide Superior’s way.
Phin Catlado scored the Bobcats’ first two touchdowns on passes from Landon Richards and finished with 69 yards receiving. Richards also led a punishing Superior
running attack which produced a total of 303 yards on the ground in Mission, going for 123 yards on 20 carries himself, besides throwing for 83 yards. Richards also scored a touchdown on a 26 yard scamper.
Turner Milender ground out 119 yards on 19 carries as well, also reaching the end zone multiple times.
Gannon Quinlan scored a touchdown on a fumble recovery return and registered 10 total tackles, Sam Doughty led the ‘Cats with 11 tackles, and Milender was his usual chaos-causing presence on the defensive side with two pass interceptions and a fumble recovery.
