Coach Michael Scharfe and his Thompson Falls-Plains soccer squad may have lost 4-1 to Bigfork in Thompson Falls and 10-0 to powerful Whitefish in Whitefish Thursday, but not all is lost, there are still a lot of meaningful matches to play.
The Hawks will host Columbia Falls at the Amundson Complex in Plains Tuesday and then travel to Browning for a friendly with the Indians Friday this week, and Scharfe said he and his boys are excited to continue getting after it in those matches.
Scharfe said the Hawks couldn’t seem to get going very well against Bigfork and eventually paid the price. “We came out a little flat and Bigfork was able to capitalize on that and score three goals before the half,” he said. “We did a good job of regrouping at halftime and played even with them after that.”
Scharfe said the teams tied 1-1 in the second half with Liam Pallister scoring the goal for the Hawks.
At Whitefish the Hawks ran into one of the best teams in the state and the hometown Bulldogs motored to the win. “Giving credit to Whitefish, they have a very good team and I wouldn’t be surprised if they win state this year,” Scharfe said. “Even though we lost, this game was not without positives on our side.
“Jacob Howell continued his excellent play as keeper with 16 saves,” he said. “Landin Baird and Liam played stellar on the back line and stopped numerous attacks from developing.”
