The tennis courts were hot after a rainy start to the weekend, as the Polson and Ronan tennis teams took each other, with Stevensville also participating on April 4.

It was another successful week for Polson as they swept this weekend’s slate, while Stevensville and Ronan struggled to keep up with a team that is looking like a potential state tournament contender.

Here’s how Saturday played out for these three schools.

Polson Girls 6, Stevensville Girls 1

The Polson girls have dominated to start the year and they continued that with a standout performance this week against the Lady Yellowjackets.

First, Polson’s Baylee Lemm beat Nevaeh Meader 8-3, with Alexa Kinaman stealing a match against Stevenville’s Gracelyn Gradfrey 6-2 and 6-4. JoHanna Bieber continued her strong season for Polson with back-to-back set sweeps against Dawn Harms, 6-0 and 6-0. Finally, Rylee Taylor-Jefferson capped off Lia Werschmoller, 6-1 and 6-1.

Stevenville’s only win of the day for the girls was when Nevaeh Meader and Avery Grady earned a win by forfeit. Polson came back with Vivian Grainey and Josie Henriksen beating out Bridgett Madruga and Riley Moore, 6-1 and 6-1.

Bella Conboy and Embree Bird wrapped up the team win with a victory over Stevensville’s Gracelyn Gradfrey and Moore, 0-6, 7-6 and 10-4.

Polson Boys 5, Stevensville Boys 2

On the boys side, it was more of the same as the Pirates came out victorious in an electric start to the season.

Starting in singles, Jeremy Madruga took the first of two singles wins for Stevensville over Polson’s Ruger Ellis, 6-4 and 6-4. Luis Eberhardt earned the only other Stevensville win over Brady Kline, 6-0 and 6-3.

Maddox Bird picked up Polson’s first boys singles win of the day over Toby Brown, 6-3 and 6-1. Cash Brown equalized the singles record for Polson with a victory over Stevensville’s Lance Morris, 6-0 and 6-2.

Polson swept in boys doubles, starting with a win by Marcus Lucas and Teague McElwee over Jeremiah Stigerman and Drake Tully 6-1 and 6-0. Strider Gage and Zayne Newman kept the winning streak up with a set sweep against Ross Cocran and BK Ketron, 6-0 and 6-0.

Parker Hendricksen and Truman Sawyer were the final Polson doubles to win with a victory over RJ Chmeka and Thane Harms, 6-0 and 6-2.

Polson Girls 7, Ronan Girls 0

It was time for the rivalry matches with Ronan and Polson vying for bragging rights to start the year.

The girls started with Lemm earning a set sweep over Ronan’s Amy Snyder, 6-0 and 6-0. Kinaman also shone against Loren Olson with two set wins, 6-2 and 6-2. Bieber notched another win as well with a 7-6 and 6-2 finish. Embree Bird wrapped up the win against April Uhrich, 7-5 and 6-2.

In girls doubles, Lund and Moss got the first Polson win against Anaka Hardy and Havilah Tromp, 6-0 and 6-0. Grainey and Henriksen also earned a win with set sweeps against Addi Shallock and Olivia Willer, 6-0 and 6-0. Taylor-Jefferson and Conboy wrapped up the day with a win over Grace Heiner and Brinley Shallock, 6-4 and 6-0.

Polson Boys 2, Ronan Boys 1

Finally, the Polson boys finished up with some close matches against Ronan. However, the Pirates swept the day with this team win.

The singles started with a strong win for Truman Sawyer over Ronan’s Rowan Parks, 6-2  and 6-2. The only other boys singles match went to Parker Hendrickson against Kaden Buck, 6-2 and 6-0.
