Polson’s Cody Haggard had a stellar performance on Thursday to highlight a packed week of high school baseball from across Lake County.

With no local team hitting a .500 record yet this season, it will take everything in them to find wins early in the year.

Polson Baseball 14, Noxon Baseball 2

Polson was looking for a standout win on the week and Cody Haggard was all in last Thursday.

It looked like it was going to be a defensive game for both teams, each team going three innings without scoring. Haggard went lights out from the mound, before Polson started to put up runs.

The Pirates rattled off four runs in the top of the fourth with multiple errors helping Polson take a 4-0 lead halfway through the game.

Polson tacked on another six runs in the fifth inning, with both Haggard and Holden Emerson launching home run balls. Noxon scored two in the bottom of the fifth as Polson took a 10-2 lead.

Polson tacked on another four runs with Emerson hitting a home run on the closing run of the game. Noxon couldn’t battle back as the Pirates won 14-2.

Haggard threw 13 strikeouts across just over four innings, surrendering just two runs in the process. He also had one RBI and two runs on two hits. Emerson was the offensive star with two home runs on two hits while driving in five RBIs.

Bigfork Baseball 6, Polson Baseball 3

Polson invited the Bigfork Vikings to town on April 7 in a classic faceoff between two conference opponents.

It was a defensive slugfest early, with neither team scoring in the first two innings. Cole Wadsworth lit up the mound early for Polson as they looked for the win.

Despite Bigfork taking the first lead of the game in the third inning, Polson answered in the fourth with a run scored off an error and a ground ball batted in by Hunter Luedtke.

Momentum was in their favor as both teams logged another scoreless inning in the fifth. Polson nabbed another run in the sixth inning as the pitching looked like it could be enough to hold off the Vikings.

The Pirates couldn’t hold on in the seventh as they gave up five runs, falling behind enough to drop this game 6-3.

Cody Haggard had the lone RBI of the game, including one run on one hit in three at-bats. He also closed the game out by allowing one run, three hits and earning a strikeout. Wadsworth earned seven strikeouts before being pulled after the fourth inning.

Flathead Baseball 12, Ronan Baseball 2

Ronan had a tough schedule of play, starting with an early week matchup against the Flathead Braves on April 6.

It was a tough one early as Ronan went down two runs against Flathead in the first inning. Another run in the second inning put the Chiefs in a tough position, but they responded.

Two runs to start the third helped close the gap 3-2. However, the Braves hit an impeccable eight runs in the third inning. That drought proved to be too much for the Chiefs as they couldn’t manage another run for the rest of the game. They lost out 12-2.

Hamilton Baseball 12, Ronan Baseball 0

Ronan faced another gauntlet game against the undefeated Hamilton Broncs April 9.

Hamilton scored immediately with three runs on the board in the first inning. The Broncs earned another two runs in the second inning as Ronan struggled to put bat to ball.

The clinching inning was the third as Ronan remained scoreless while Hamilton notched six more runs, going up 11-0.

The Broncs tallied one more run en route to finishing the game with a 12-0 score.

Ronan Baseball 7, MAC Baseball 4

It was a battle in the Mission Valley as Ronan and MAC faced off in this Lake County brawl last Friday.

Ronan flipped their fortunes around by taking an early 1-0 lead in this one. The Bulldogs were unable to score to start this game as the Chiefs found themselves in a prime position for a huge lead.

The Chiefs nabbed five runs in the second inning, with most hits being singles for scores. Good contact helped Ronan go up 6-0 with the Bulldogs trying to find a rhythm.

Both teams went scoreless in the third but MAC found life in the fourth inning. They scored three runs, starting with a Ronson Hout ground ball double to right field. The Bulldogs closed it 6-3, searching for a chance back into this one.

Another scoreless inning in the fifth and a Ronan run in the sixth put MAC in a winner-take-all seventh inning.

The Bulldogs only managed one run as the Chiefs took their first win of the season.

Ben Mitchell showed out with two runs and two RBIs on one hit. He also pitched three strikeouts with two runs allowed.

Hout had a solid performance for the Bulldogs with his one run and one RBI on one hit.

Corvallis Baseball 9, MAC Baseball 6

MAC’s tough week saw them lose a close one to Corvallis on April 7.

It was a matchup made for two teams searching for a light early in the year. They were knotted up 1-1 in the first inning.

A scoreless second inning led to a shootout in the third. Corvallis earned four runs in the top of the third inning but MAC answered. They went on to score five runs with Hout and Landon Shmucker each batting in two.

Corvallis answered again and the heat check came in the form of three runs and an 8-6 lead through halfway in the game.

The Bulldogs couldn’t score another run for the rest of the game, eventually losing out 9-6 after a consolation run in the seventh from Corvallis.

Jason Leishman had two runs in that game to lead the team.
