It was a short week for Lake County softball, but it was successful across the board. In just four total games played, all three teams won out.
As they all start to get into the dredges of the regular season, each result will be paramount to competing for that coveted state title this May.
Polson Softball 10, Libby Softball 8
Tuesday was a busy day for Lake County softball, starting with the Lady Pirates taking on Libby April 14.
It was a game defined by runs at the right time. In a game of momentum, Polson needed everything they could get.
The Lady Pirates took an early three run lead after the first two innings. An Adrienne Crockett double in the first and a JJ Pierre single in the second helped will Polson ahead, but the Lady Loggers were not deterred.
They scored two runs in the third before hitting a massive six runs in the top of the fourth, taking a commanding 8-3 lead. Polson got another run in the fourth but they needed more in order to notch another win.
Luckily for them, the Libby bats cooled off as they finally started to heat up. They answered with six runs of their own, with many of those runs off of Libby's mistakes. Maddie Turner’s double helped bring in three runners to take a 10-8 lead.
The Lady Loggers were never able to rally as Polson won 10-8.
Turner was the offensive star with her game-winning double being the only hit she had of the day.
Ronan Softball 20, Whitefish Softball 10
The Maidens had an offensive field day on April 14 as Whitefish came down to the Mission Valley.
Whitefish was looking to buck their losing trend and they looked poised to do so. Despite a 2-2 tie to start this game in the first inning, the Lady Bulldogs scored one run in the consecutive four innings, with Ronan having no answers in the second and third.
However, the Maidens were reinvigorated by a Marie Cheff double in the bottom of the fourth. That started a five run fourth inning and a momentum shift that took the Maidens all the way to the end.
Whitefish was still scoring well, even notching four runs in the sixth. However, a sixth inning barrage from Ronan was plenty to win this game. It was 11 runs for the Maidens of the Mission Valley, with the highlight of that inning coming in the form of an Autumn Lozeau home run.
Lozeau was the MVP of this game with three runs and six RBIs on five hits. Marie Cheff also had a standout day with four runs and four RBIs on four hits.
MAC Softball 17, Lincoln County Softball 16
Mission/Arlee/Charlo played two intense games this past week, with the first being a shootout on April 14 against Lincoln County.
MAC needed a hot start to stay in this one and they did just that. They outscored the Lady Lions 7-2 in the first three innings with a strong four run second inning to help put the Lady Bulldogs ahead.
After a scoreless fourth inning from both teams, Lincoln County started to close the gap with four runs in the fifth inning.
It was 8-6 after the fifth, with Lincoln County needing some magic from their batters to make this game close. Both teams nabbed four runs in the sixth inning as the Lady Lions scored six runs to take a 16-12 lead in the seventh inning.
MAC kept the hitting up as GG Hawk’s walkoff double propelled the Lady Bulldogs to a 17-16 lead.
Hawk was the leader of the offense with three runs and five RBIs on six hits.
MAC Softball 4, Troy Softball 3
MAC took a different, more defensive approach in their win against Troy on April 18.
The Lady Bulldogs were reliant on pitching for this game, as the MAC batter remained relatively cool this game. An early 1-0 lead for them helped keep this game mostly in their hands for the first three innings.
Jada Domebo pitched all seven innings with some solid control to help keep her team steady.
She allowed the tying run in the fourth but MAC retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth 2-1.
Despite Troy retaking that lead 3-2 at the top of the seventh, the MAC batters had just enough juice to take their second win of the week. Domebo singled to tie the game up as Avia Lee grounded out to drive in the winning run.
Domebo allowed nine hits and three runs while notching five strikeouts in that win. Four different MAC batters tied for more RBIs with Domebo and Ysabell Smith both getting two hits on the day.
