Lake County track teams top podiums at three different meets

This week’s track and field slate was packed for Lake County’s Class B and Class C schools.
Two meetings in five days is a quick turnaround and results to prove the work was worth it as the final meets of April start rolling in.
Mission, Arlee, Charlo, TERS take on Seeley Swan, Thompson Falls
Four of Lake County’s high schools took on some tough competition in this week’s track and field slate. First, they started on April 21 in Thompson Falls for the Thompson Falls Invite.
Starting with Mission, Sheadon Kain placed fourth in the 100 meters for the girls. Valentina O’Brien nabbed second in the 800 meters. Brooklyn Leishman got fifth in the 1600 meters. Quincy Jensen wrapped up the running events with a fourth place in the 100 meter hurdles and a second place in the 300 meter hurdles.
Cora Matt continued her strong season with a fourth place in the javelin and a sixth place in the shot put. Kain notched fifth in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump.
Davidson Strysko earned fourth place for the Mission boys. Cade Salmelin got sixth place for the 200 meters. Isaiah Gariepy got sixth in the 1600 meters.
Lex LaFrombois was the only boy who placed in a field with a first place finish in the long jump and a fourth place finish in the high jump.
Onto Arlee, Ava Van Maanen had a solid day with first place in the 800 meters and the 1600 meters. She was the only girl to place in the top six.
Karma Tibbetts got third in the pole vault, triple jump and long jump as the solo Arlee girl to place in field events.
Trevor Van Maanen earned second in the 800 meters and Marshall Hinther got fifth. Van Maanen also snagged second in the 1600 meters. Aarinnario North Peigan got fourth in the 3200 meters.
Orrin Johnson, Dean Moran, Eli O’Neill and Cash Wills all nabbed third on the 4x100 meter relay. Johnson, O’Neill, Hinther and Van Maanen all got third in the 4x400 meter relay.
O’Neill kept his strong day up in the field events with a first place finish in shot put, a second place finish in discus and a third place finish in javelin. Chance Tibbetts got sixth in discus.
Johnson and Wills got first and second in the high jump. Dean Moran nabbed first in the triple jump and second in the long jump. Dustone Cyrus got fifth in the triple jump.
For Charlo, Brooke Cahoon took first in the 100 meter hurdles for the girls. Cahoon, Abbigail Wagner, GG Hawk, and Avery Coleman all earned second in the 4x100 meter relay.
Olivia Carnell and Coleman finished second and third respectively in the shot put. Hawk and Carnell finished second and fourth respectively in the pole vault. Hawk also got second in the long jump with Jaylynn Buxbaum finishing sixth. Hawk wrapped up a strong day with a second place finish in the triple jump.
Kenyan Dumont finished third in the 3200 meters for the Charlo boys as the only track event top six finisher.
Tasker Brown and Karson Cox finished second and third in the shot put. Cox also got first in the discus and javelin. Cox excelled in the jumps too with a second place finish in pole vault. Brown nabbed a third place in triple jump to round it out.
Two Eagle River had one top six finisher in any varsity running event, both boys and girls. That was Gregory Plummer, Jesus Barrett X, Anthony Sheridan and Jason Trahan for the 4x100 meter relay.
Down to Missoula, the Seeley Swan High School Invitational took place at MCPS Stadium on April 25 with 32 schools participating.
For Mission, Brookly Leishman earned sixth place in the 1600 meters as the only Mission girl to place in the top six.
LaFrombois earned second in the high jump as the only Mission boy to place.
Ava Van Maanen nabbed third place in the 800 meters and first in the 1600 meters for the girls as the only Arlee girl with a top six finish in the track events.
Karma Tibbetts got second in the pole vault and fourth in the triple jump as the solo Arlee girl to finish that high in the field events.
Trevor Van Maanen got third place in the 800 meters as the lone Arlee boy to place top six in a track event.
O’Neill got third in the shot put and Wills got sixth in the high jump to wrap up Arlee’s top finishers.
For Charlo, Wagner, Hawk, Coleman and Cahoon finished sixth in the 4x100 meter relay for the girls only top track finish.
Cahoon also earned second in the high jump. Hawk nabbed third in the pole vault, long jump and triple jump to wrap up her impressive week.
Cox got first in the pole vault, fourth in the javelin and sixth in discus as the only top six finisher for the Charlo boys in any event.
Two Eagle River didn’t have any top six finishers at this meet.
Polson shines at Columbia Falls Iceberg Invitational
The Pirates went north on April 25 to take on the Columbia Falls Iceberg Invitational and it was a success.
Starting with the girls, Amelia Stene and Rosie Lies got fourth and fifth in the 100 meters. Stene also nabbed third in the 400 meters. Kellyn Nelson snagged second in the 800 meters and Quinn Delaney got second in the 1600 meters.
Nelson, Lies, Stene and Ravea Tenas got second in the 4x100 meter relay. Nelson, Tenas, Stene and Keira Owen got fourth in the 4x400 meter relay.
Piper Adams and Olivia Cottet got first and third respectively in the shot put. Cottet also got first in the discus. Stene earned sixth in the high jump and Nelson got fifth in the long jump. Owen wraps up the Polson girls strong day with a fourth place finish in the triple jump.
On the boys side, Luke Horner and Kelby DuMont got fifth and sixth place in the 100 meters. David DiGiallonardo got second in the 800 meters and third in the 400 meters. Jackson Bontadelli got third in the 1600 meters.
Bontadelli, DuMont, Horner and Azriel Balongag got fifth in the 4x100 meter relay. Horner, Bontadelli, DiGiallonardo, and Hayden Ricks got third in the 4x400 meter relay.
John Sherry earned first in the shot put and fourth in the discus as the sole Polson boys top finisher.

Packed baseball weekend pushes Lake County teams further
The busiest week for any Lake County sport was baseball with both Polson and Ronan taking on the Paddlehead Showcase this past weekend. With games galore, each team needed their best to come out victorious in this packed slate.
