The busiest week for any Lake County sport was baseball with both Polson and Ronan taking on the Paddlehead Showcase this past weekend.

With games galore, each team needed their best to come out victorious in this packed slate.

Polson Baseball 9, Libby Baseball 2

Polson started their week with a win over conference opponent Libby on April 21.

This game was defined by consistent offense from Polson. Despite only scoring more than two runs once in an inning, they scored in five of their seven innings. This level of solid play helped keep the Pirates on a run of success.

Pitching also helped with the talents of Liam Jackson and Hunter Luedtke only allowing two runs all game. This helped push Polson to the 9-2 win.

Jackson also shined at home plate as he helped bring in three RBIs to lead the team.

Polson Baseball 8, Corvallis 2

The Pirates earned another decisive victory on April 23 when they took on Corvallis down in Missoula.

This game saw some early runs from both teams but the Polson bats were the ones that kept the winning dream alive late. Corvallis got two runs in the first but couldn’t score for the rest of the game.

Polson cruised to an 8-2 and guaranteed themselves a winning record for their week.

Paxson DuMont led the way with three RBIs. Cody Haggard and Cole Wadsworth led the team in hits with three.

Dillon Baseball 10, Polson Baseball 2

The only blemish on this week’s record came against a solid Dillon team on April 24.

Unlike the previous two outings, Polson wasn’t able to replicate their consistent offense. Dillon’s pitching proved to be too much for the middle stretches of this game as the Beavers pulled off a strong fourth and fifth inning.

The late scoring burst powered Dillon to the 10-2 record, marking Polson’s only loss of the week.

Corvallis Baseball 14, Ronan Baseball 0

Ronan battled with many teams this week, starting with a tough loss on April 21 to Corvallis.

The Blue Devils lit up early at home plate, scoring early and often as the Chiefs couldn’t match that same offensive production. Corvallis only needed a solid second and third inning to take this game.

Corvallis won 14-0 in five innings.

Bigfork Baseball 13, Ronan Baseball 3

It was another tough loss later in the week, this time to Bigfork on April 23.

The Chiefs did find some success at home plate in the second inning, taking their first lead of the week 3-2. However, Bigfork mounted a mighty six run bottom of the second to put Ronan on the back foot.

Two scoreless innings put Ronan in a tough place as they tried to claw back. The Vikings put up five more runs on the Chiefs in the bottom of the fifth to end this game early. Bigfork won 13-3.

Baylan Hess was the main offensive catalyst for Ronan with two RBIs and one run on the day.

Stevensville Baseball 6, Ronan Baseball 0

Ronan played a closer game against Stevensville on April 24 but could not get the win.

Both teams struggled at times to get the ball into play but the Yellowjackets found ways to score in three innings. The Chiefs had some strong defensive performances but it was not enough as the Ronan bats weren’t able to get the team on the board.

Ronan managed two hits across the starting lineup at Stevensville won 6-0.

Libby Baseball 9, Ronan Baseball 3

Ronan’s last game of the weekend came on April 25 when they lost to conference opponent Libby.

It was another game that looked promising in the first three innings as Ronan played well defensively. Even with allowing two runs in the second inning, the Chiefs looked primed to keep it close late.

However, Libby found some run scoring opportunities in the fourth and fifth innings. Ronan tried to make a comeback in the sixth inning but it fell short as they lost 9-3.

Blaine Dupuis led the team in RBIs with two.

Hamilton Baseball 10, MAC Baseball 0

MAC baseball also struggled early in the week with a shutout loss to Hamilton on April 20.

The Broncs have looked tough all year and they showed it against the Bulldogs. Hamilton scored in four of the five innings played while MAC struggled to get on the board.

Solid pitching and defensive play from Hamilton made it hard for MAC to find opportunities to get on the board. The Bulldogs lost 10-0.

MAC Baseball 13, Noxon Baseball 2

MAC got a convincing win to close their week out over Noxon on April 24.

Unlike their game on Monday, the Bulldogs found life early at home plate. Five runs in the first inning and four runs in the second inning all but sealed this victory for the team. Strong hitting put Noxon’s pitching staff in a bind while MAC’s Jake Helser and Hudson Hawkaluk locked down the Red Devil hitters.

It was no surprise that this game went the way of the Bulldogs with how well-rounded they played. In one of their strongest team performances of the year, MAC secured the win 13-2.

Helser nabbed nine strikeouts through four innings to help set up Hawkaluk for an easy final inning of this game. Jason Leishman, Macklen McDonald and Mason Evans all earned two RBIs for the Bulldogs en route to the win.
