Bobcat boys win two as Quinlan notches 1,000 points
JOHN HAMILTON | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 week, 5 days AGO
The Bobcat boys got well in a hurry with two wins and junior Gannon Quinlan passed the 1,000 points scored mark for his career to highlight Superior hoops last week.
Rebounding nicely from a surprising loss in Noxon two weeks ago to the then-winless Red Devils, coach Jake McElroy’s Bobcats ran out to two feel-good road wins last week, dashing past the Panthers 68-33 in Alberton Friday and blitzing the Trojans 66-21 in Drummond Saturday, the day that Quinlan scored his 1,000th point as a Bobcat.
Next up for the Bobcats, 4-3 in 14C play and 9-4 overall, are the Victor Pirates in Superior Tuesday and the Two Eagle River Eagles in Pablo Friday.
McElroy was definitely encouraged by what he saw from his Bobcats last week. “We did a lot of things better this week, played better on the offensive end, played with maximum effort, stayed after it with a positive attitude,” he said. “We considered that Noxon game a sort of wakeup call and I was happy with how we responded to that in our last few games.”
Drummond officials graciously stopped the game to recognize Gannon’s thousandth point scored in the second half of that game after McElroy had alerted them to the possibility beforehand.
“That was awesome of the people of Drummond to do that, to allow us to honor one of our kids on their floor like that,” he said. “I guess that is kind of what living in Montana is all about.” McElroy said that Bobcat boosters plan to honor Quinlan at home for his accomplishment at the Victor game in Superior Tuesday as well.
Back to the business at hand, Quinlan finished the game in Drummond with a game-high 26 points scored, Amarie Johnosn added 12, Phin Cataldo and Logan Merrill six apiece, Jonathan Hughes five and Conrad Talbot four.
Scoring for Drummond was not available
Against Alberton, Richards netted 19 points to pace the Bobcats, Cataldo and Quinlan scored 14 each, Johnson nine, Merrill seven and Henry Hanson five.
Caiden Delaney scored 12 points and Jaxson Zimmerman 10 for coach Carson Callison’s Panthers, 1-6 in 14C action and 4-9 overall.
