And then there were three.

The powerful St. Regis Tiger boys improved to 7-0 in District 14C play and 14-0 overall with a 72-42 win over Charlo in St. Regis Saturday.

Ranked No. 4 in the most recent Class C state power poll, coach Jesse Allan and his Tigers remain as one of the only three unbeaten boys high school basketball teams in Montana.

Lodge Grass, the top-ranked Class B team in the state, Scobey, the No. 1 Class C team and St. Regis are currently the only remaining unbeatens. The No. 1 ranked Class A team last week, Lockwood fell out of the undefeated ranks with a loss to crosstown rival Billings Central.

Hoping to keep the unbeaten streak going as the season winds down, the Tigers hit the road for a pair of games this week, playing at Alberton Tuesday and at Troy Thursday.

The Tigers won the only game they played last week, stopping the Vikings 72-42 Saturday in St. Regis.

Charlo has reportedly lost their leading scorer Karson Cox to injury, and his absence hurt the Vikings severely against St. Regis. “They were also down another starter, so they had a few inexperienced guys trying to fill some big shoes,” Allan said.

For their part, the Tigers seem to have quality, experienced players filling all their big shoe roles right now. “Our pace is tough and our guys are hard to beat when they are able to fly around and create turnovers,” Allan said of his Tigers terrific, who flew out to a 21-2 lead after one quarter against Charlo and never looked back.

Allan went freely to his bench, getting as many players as many minutes as possible in an attempt to gear up for the rapidly approaching tournament season.

Barrett Bessette led a balanced St. Regis attack in the win over Charlo scoring 16 points, Conner lulis added 15, Denver Thomas 13, Nate Bohn 12, Tucker Desoto seven, Isaac Kelly six and Sterling Gray three.

Echo Edwards paced Charlo with 13 points, Tasker Brown added 11 and Tyler Boye eight.

Allan looks forward to mixing it up again with Troy, a team the Tigers defeated 69-60 in St. Regis a few weeks ago. It stands out as one of the more competitive games the Tigers have been forced to play all season, and Allan clearly wouldn’t mind seeing another tough contest in a non-conference setting.

“Troy is well-coached, kind of a sleeper team in Class B this season,” he said. “Carson Orr is a handful but they also have five to six other guys that work hard and can contribute.”
