Lady Cats chalk up more wins
JOHN HAMILTON | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 2 days, 7 hours AGO
The Superior Lady Cats kept the ball rolling on a great season by sweeping to a pair of District 14C conference wins last week, defeating Mineral County rival St. Regis 54-26 in Superior Thursday and topping Noxon 61-15 in Noxon Friday.
Now 5-1 in league play and 9-2 overall, coach Jeff Schultz hope to keep their momentum going with two home games this week, against Victor Tuesday in a non-conference game, and Saturday against Charlo, the only 14C team the Cats have lost to so far this season.
Schultz said the Vikings managed to take his girls out of their normal game somewhat the first time around. His goal is to avoid that happening Saturday.
“Charlo shot really well the first time we met, made 78% of their free throws,” he said. “Gigi Hawk scored 24 points, they were able to get some breakaways, we need to change the flow of how the game goes this time.”
When the flow is going Superior’s way, like it was last week against St. Regis and Noxon, the points also flow the Cats’ way.
Against St. Regis, Josie Crabb rode the crest of the wave on that flow scoring a game-high 21 points, Lily Jasper added 11, Maryisa Swope and Ava White netted eight apiece, Makenzie Reum three, Maggie Haworth two and Kaydi Erickson one.
At Noxon Friday Swope was the high-point Lady Cat with 20 points, Crabb counted 16, Reum and Jasper seven each, White and Kamryn Chruch four apiece, Haworth and Erickson two each and Hannah VanderPloeg one.
