Packed track and field weekend sees major Lake County success

It was another packed week in track and field as schools from across Lake County sent teams to a prestigious meet down in Missoula.
These athletes competed in a week where they took on some of the best teams in western Montana across all classes. Luckily, many of those athletes shone.
Top 10 meet brings in local talent
It was a packed MCPS Stadium in Missoula on April 28 as multiple athletes from Lake County competed in the Russ Pilcher Top 10 meet.
Starting with Polson, Morgan Delaney earned a first place in the 3200 meters, and Kimora Scott followed her up with a ninth place finish. Amelia Stene also got a top six finish with a third place in the 400 meters. Quinn Delaney joined her teammate with a fourth place finish.
Piper Adams finished just outside the top six with an eighth place finish in the shot put. Her teammate Olivia Cottet got ninth in the discus.
The Polson boys saw David DiGiallonardo earn a first place win in the 3200 meters. Jackson Bontadelli got ninth in the 800 meter as the other Polson boys runner.
John Sherry earned seventh in the shot put while teammate Isaac Kinnick didn’t register a jump in the pole vault.
For Ronan, Jhett McDonald earned fifth place in the 300 meter hurdles. William Normandeau got 10th in the 800 meters. Siouxpixm Qualtier rounded out the Ronan participants with a fourth place in the pole vault.
Ava Van Maanen was the lone Arlee participant. She earned eighth in the 800 meters and 10th in the 1600 meters.
Polson, Charlo take on Sapphire Twilight Invitational
It was a great day for Polson and Charlo as they saw a plethora of placers on April 30 for the Sapphire Twilight Invitational in Corvallis.
For Polson, Stene earned second in the 100 and 200 meters. Rosie Lies got fifth in the 100 and 200 meters as well. Keira Owen earned fourth in the 400 meters with Quinn Delaney coming sixth.
Scott nabbed fourth in the 800 meters and fifth in the 1600 meters. Morgan Delaney earned second in the 1600 meters. Reese Adams also got a top six finish with sixth in the 3200 meters.
Kellyn Nelson earned second in the 300 meter hurdles. She joined Lies, Tenas and Stene as they got fourth in the 4x100 meter relay. Nelson, Tenas, Stene and Owen got second in the 4x400 meter relay as well.
Piper Adams nabbed third place while Cottet got fifth in the shot put. Cottet also took home first in the discus with Piper Adams earning sixth in that same event. Stene got sixth in the high jump while Nelson got third in the pole vault.
The Polson boys saw Luke Horner earn second in the 400 meters, fourth in the 100 meters and sixth in the 200 meters. David DiGiallonardo got first in both the 800 and 1600 meters to improve his impressive weekend.
Horner, Bontadelli, Kelby DuMont and Elijah Cole claimed fifth in the 4x100 meter relay. Horner, Bontadelli, DiGiallonardo and Hayden Ricks took third in the 4x400 meter relay.
Sherry earned third in the shot put to start the field events. Dion Lichtenberg nabbed fourth in the javelin. Kinnick earned fifth in the pole vault to round out Polson’s top finishers.
The Charlo girls saw Brook Cahoon take fourth in the 100 meter hurdles. Cahoon, Abbigail Wagner, Olivia Carnell and Avery Coleman earned sixth place in the 4x100 meter relay.
Carnell nabbed third in the discus and fourth in the shot put. Cahoon got third in the high jump to round out the Charlo girls top finishers.
The Charlo boys saw Karson Cox earn second place in javelin and fourth place in the pole vault. He was the lone Charlo boy to place in the top six.
Lake County schools top Bigfork Invitational events
The last meet of the week was on May 2 when Polson, Ronan, Charlo, Mission and Two Eagle River all went up north for the Bigfork Invitational.
Polson saw Lies take first in the 100 meters, posting the best Polson girls finish in a track event. Nelson got second in the 800 meters. Reese Adams, Skyleigh Stinchfield, Amaya Shizuku and Abbey Kunz earned third place in the 4x400 meter relay.
Nelson earned first in the pole vault. Owen got third in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump.
For the boys, Ricks earned sixth in the 800 meters. Cole, Lichtenberg, Landon Armstrong and Wyatt Boogerd got sixth in the 4x400 meter relay.
Darrin Hewankorn took fifth in the javelin. Jaspin Fisher earned fourth in the triple jump to round of Polson’s varsity top six finishers.
For Ronan, Sarah Templer, Amitiel Schiele-Auld, Maddy Illig and Alexis Finley earned fourth in the 4x100 meter relay.
Angie Adams got sixth in the discus as the lone Ronan varsity girl with a top six finish.
The Ronan boys saw Normandeau get fourth in the 800 meters and third in the 1600 meters. Devon BigMedicine claimed second in the 3200 meters and Elijah Zepeda got fourth in the 3200 meters and fifth in the 1600 meters.
McDonald took sixth in the 110-meter hurdles and second in the 300-meter hurdles. Drew Holmlund, Caleb Herrera, Austin Schall and Tony Adams got sixth in the 4x100 meter relay. Schall, Qualtier, McDonald and Normandeau earned third in the 4x400 meter relay.
Masyn Wayman earned second in the shot put and second in the discus. Mason Higgins and Scott Cameron tied for sixth in the javelin.
Schall earned sixth in the high jump while Qualtier got second in the pole vault. Tony Adams got fifth in the triple jump to round out Ronan’s best varsity finishers.
For Mission, Brooklyn Leishman took home fourth in the 3200 meters. Sheadon Kain, Raleigh McDonald, Mary Lamere and Leila Hogenson got fifth in the 4x100 meter relay. Kain, Lamere, Leishman and Quincey Jensen nabbed second in the 4x400 meter relay.
Cora Matt earned sixth in the shot put to finish up for the Mission girls.
Lex LaFrombois, Cage Salmelin, Levi Dwelle and Dakota Zeiler earned fifth place in the 4x100 meter relay as the only Mission boys to place in the top six in varsity.
Charlo's Cahoon earned third in the 100 meter hurdles and fourth in the 300 meter hurdles. Wagner, Coleman, Cahoon and GG Hawk earned second in the 4x100 meter relay.
Carnell got fourth in the shot put and discus. Cahoon nabbed a first place finish in the high jump. Hawk tied for fifth in the pole vault, fourth in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump. Jaylynn Buxbaum tied for sixth in the long jump.
Tasker Brown earned sixth in the shot put for the Charlo boys. Brown also claimed fourth in the discus with Cox coming in fifth. Cox also earned first in the javelin, fourth in the pole vault and tied for sixth in the long jump.
Two Eagle River had no varsity top six finishes.

Lake County softball teams notch quality wins
Polson and Ronan had a loaded weekend full of tournament softball down in Frenchtown. With a tournament slate and a busy week for Mission/Arlee/Charlo as well, each team needed their best performances to come out on top this week.

With baseball heating up, every Lake County squad is eager for every victory they can get. It was a week that saw some serious wins and also some heartbreaking losses. All three local teams got to the diamond to showcase what they can do in this baseball-heavy weekend.
