Polson, Ronan battle it out in tennis rivalry match

It was rivalry week on the tennis courts today as Polson and Ronan faced off in another battle of grit.
It is always interesting when these two teams play each other and it was that way this time around when they faced off on April 30 at the Polson Tennis Courts. With Columbia Falls also coming to the Mission Valley, it was an exciting week of tennis for the Class A squads in Lake County.
Polson Girls Tennis 7, Ronan Girls Tennis 0
Starting in the girls singles, Polson’s Karly Smith beat Ronan’s Amy Snyder 6-1 and 6-2. Baylee Lemm of Polson also beat Ronan’s Loren Olson 6-0 and 6-0. Alexa Kinaman helped clean up for Polson as well, with a win over Grace Heiner 6-3 and 6-3. JoHanna Bieber closed out the singles sweep for Polson over Ronan’s Brinley Shallock 6-1 and 6-2.
In doubles, Greta Lund and Hinkley Moss started Polson off with a win over Hosanna Wilson and Emily Skare, 6-4 and 6-2. Josie Henriksen and Vivian Grainey followed that up for Polson against Anaka Hardy and Havilah Skare, winning 6-2, 6-1. Zoe Schroeder and Embree Bird wrapped up those wins with one over Addi Shallock and Olivia Willer, 6-2, 6-3.
Polson Boys Tennis 4, Ronan Boys Tennis 0
The boys singles were much of the same as Polson’s Maddox Bird beat Ronan’s Hayden Fussell 6-0, 6-1. Cash Brown of Polson also got a win over Ronan’s Kaden Buck 6-4, 6-2. Brady Kline closed out the Polson singles wins against Tobias Wilson 6-4, 6-2.
Polson’s Strider Gage and Zayne Newman got the lone doubles win over Ronan’s Mason Parks and Tobias Wilson, 6-2 and 6-2, to secure the sweep of the rivals.
Columbia Falls Girls Tennis 4, Polson Girls Tennis 3
Polson was less fortunate against Columbia Falls. Lemm started off with a win over Columbia Falls’ Ella Heppner, 6-0 and 6-0. Smith also notched a win over Bailey Windauer 6-1 and 6-0. Ashlyn Dunham of Columbia Falls beat out Bieber 7-5 and 7-5. Campbell LaCassee equalized it in wins, beating out Schroeder 6-4, 0-6 and 6-1.
The doubles saw Moss and Lund get a win over Alanis Petersen and Madi Yerian 7-6, (7-4) and 6-1. Ava Scholz and Fiona Bryant got another win for Columbia Falls over Grainey and Henriksen 6-3, 3-6 and 6-4. Khloe Perry and Kristina Tamurelli close out Columbia Falls’ team win with a victory over Bird and Kinaman 3-6, 6-4 and 10-5.
Polson Boys Tennis 6, Columbia Falls Boys Tennis 1
The Polson boys fared well with Ruger Ellis getting an early win over William Oberholtzer 6-1 and 6-1. Bird nabbed a win over Jack Austin due to an injury. Pablo Perles earned Columbia Falls’ sole win of the day against the Polson boys against Brown 7-5, 5-7 and 6-1. Kline closed it out for Polson with a win over Scout Love 7-6, 3-6 and 10-8.
Polson’s Teague McElwee and Marcus Lucas beat out Jackson Scholz and Sol Masters 6-1 and 6-2. Newman and Gage also earned a win for Polson over Blake Perry and Taiven Combs 6-2 and 6-2. Parker Hendrickson and Truman Sawyer wrapped up the day with a win over Jackson Bowler and Gabe Plevel 2-6, 6-4 and 6-2.
Columbia Falls Girls Tennis 7, Ronan Girls Tennis 0
Onto Ronan, Heppner got Columbia Falls their first win over Ronan against Snyder 6-0 and 6-0. Windauer of Columbia Falls beat out Olson 6-0 and 6-0. Dunham nabbed a win over Ronan’s April Uhrich 6-3 and 6-1. LaCasse closed out Columbia Falls’ wins with a victory over Shallock 6-0 and 6-0.
Petersen and Yerian earned a doubles win for Columbia Falls over Wilson and E. Skare 6-1 and 6-3. Scholz and Bryant got another win over Ronan against Hardy and H. Skare 6-1 and 6-2. Perry and Tamburelli close out the team sweep over Ronan by beating Shallock and Willer 6-2 and 6-0.
Columbia Falls Boys Tennis 4, Ronan Boys Tennis 0
Austin kept the wins going for Columbia Falls with a win over Fussell 6-1 and 6-0. Perles earned another for Columbia Falls over Buck 7-6 and 6-0. Love closed out the singles sweep over Ronan against Wilson 2-6, 6-4 and 10-6.
The lone doubles match between the Columbia Falls and Ronan boys went to Columbia Falls as Perry and Combs beat out Parks and Wilson 6-0 and 6-3.

Lake County softball teams notch quality wins
Polson and Ronan had a loaded weekend full of tournament softball down in Frenchtown. With a tournament slate and a busy week for Mission/Arlee/Charlo as well, each team needed their best performances to come out on top this week.

With baseball heating up, every Lake County squad is eager for every victory they can get. It was a week that saw some serious wins and also some heartbreaking losses. All three local teams got to the diamond to showcase what they can do in this baseball-heavy weekend.
Packed track and field weekend sees major Lake County success
It was another packed week in track and field as schools from across Lake County sent teams to a prestigious meet down in Missoula. These athletes competed in a week where they took on some of the best teams in western Montana across all classes. Luckily, many of those athletes shone.
