As the season starts to wind down, all of Lake County’s baseball teams are vying for their best baseball results. Tough competition marked an exciting week for every team.
Polson 7, Libby 0
Polson got an impressive win for senior night over Libby on May 7.
The Pirates took the lead early with a run in the top of the first. They never scored more than two runs in an inning, but they were consistently on the board. Libby couldn’t find a way to score once with the combination of Cody Haggard and Liam Jackson allowing just five hits across all innings. Polson won 7-0.
Jackson and Holden Emerson both scored one RBI on two hits with two runs scored.
Lincoln County 1, Polson 0
Polson took a heartbreaking loss at Lincoln County on May 8.
It was a defensive slugfest between the Pirates and the Lions with neither team allowing a run through the first five innings. The Lions nabbed their only run in the bottom of the sixth off of an error on a groundball.
The Pirates couldn’t find a score in the seventh and lost 1-0.
No Pirate registered a hit. Jackson and Cole Wadsworth combined for 10 strikeouts, with Wadsworth allowing four hits and the solo run.
Polson 11, Noxon 1
The Pirates got a bounce back over Noxon on May 9.
Polson didn’t need much to control this game, scoring eight runs across the first two innings. Lincoln County struggled to score until the fifth inning, but it was too late. Polson only needed five innings to clinch the 11-1 victory.
Wadsworth led the team with one RBI on two hits and two runs scored.
Hamilton 26, Ronan 0
Ronan took a tough loss on May 5 to Hamilton to start their week.
The Chiefs went down early after surrendering 15 runs in the first inning. After one of their toughest first innings of the season, they couldn’t find a way to score and lost 26-0 in three innings.
Denzel Baltz led the team with one hit and secured the lone hit of the game for the Chiefs.
Corvallis 12, Ronan 7
Ronan took another loss but played it close when they dropped their game against Corvallis on May 7.
The Chiefs took an early lead 3-1 in the first inning. With that momentum, they kept the lead until the bottom of the third inning when Corvallis tied it up. Ronan retook the lead in the fourth inning 4-3. Despite that, Corvallis managed nine runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a commanding lead. Ronan managed three runs in the seventh, but still dropped this game 12-7.
Blaine Dupuis led the way with two RBIs on one hit with one run scored as the most efficient scorer of the day.
Hamilton 16, MAC 1
Mission/Arlee/Charlo dropped their first game of the week on May 7 to Hamilton.
The Broncs have been almost unstoppable all year and the Bulldogs saw that firsthand on Tuesday. Hamilton scored 14 runs in the first two innings with MAC only having an answer in the third. By then, the Broncs had taken a 16-1 lead and ultimately secured the victory in four innings.
Milo Crooks earned the only RBI and Jake Helser scored the lone run.
Lincoln County 4, MAC 2
MAC lost their first of two games in a doubleheader against Lincoln County on May 7.
The Bulldogs struggled to score in this game, going scoreless for the first four innings. The Lions managed three runs in the third inning and one in the fourth to claim the lead. The Bulldogs managed two runs in the fifth but they never managed to get on the board again. They lost 4-2.
Jason Leishman and Easton Volinkaty scored the two runs in this contest.
Lincoln County 15, MAC 0
The Bulldogs dropped their second game against Lincoln County on May 9.
The Lions took a massive lead early with nine runs in the first inning. That lead was insurmountable for the Bulldogs as they couldn’t find a way to score all game. The Lions scored six more runs to close out the game, winning 15-0.
Helser and Leishman were the lone Bulldogs to register a hit in this game.
