Lake County track teams get big results in end-of-season sprint

It was district week for most track and field teams in Lake County, with Mission, Arlee, Charlo and Two Eagle River all showing out before divisionals. 

Polson and Ronan wrapped up the regular season with the ABC Invite, making it a packed week before the final sprints, jumps and throws of the season.


Polson, Ronan see placements at local meet

It was a good weekend for both Class A schools in Lake County on May 16 at the ABC Invite in Polson. However, a drenching rain meant some events were not run. These placements are what was recorded before the early end of this meet.

Starting with Polson, Amelia Stene and Rosie Lies got second and fifth in the 100 meters, respectively. Stene also got third in the 400 meters.

Morgan Delaney took first in the 1600 meters while Kellyn Nelson got fifth in the 300 meter hurdles.

Lies, Stene, Ravea Tenas and Amaya Shizuku placed sixth in the 4x100 meter relay to wrap up the best Polson girls placements.

Piper Adams threw for second place in the shot put. Nelson earned third in the pole vault to wrap up the girls placers.

For the Polson boys, Luke Horner got second in the 100 meters. David DiGiallonardo claimed first in the 1600 meters.

Another first went to Dion Lichtenberg in the triple jump as the lone Polson boy to top six a field event.

For the Ronan boys, Jhett McDonald placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles. Austin Schall earned fourth in the high jump. Samuel Barber and Tony Adams placed third and fourth in the triple jump.

Ronan had no varsity girls place in the top six in any event.


Mission soars in 7B District Meet

It was a phenomenal meet for the Bulldogs as they saw many top six finishes in the 7B District Meet on May 16 at Eureka High School.

Starting with the girls, Sheadon Kain and Leila Hogenson earned fifth and sixth respectively in the 100 meters. Brooklyn Leishman got second in the 800 meters, fourth in the 1600 meters and third in the 3200 meters.

Raileigh McDonald claimed first in the 3200 meters as well, with Jenai McElderry getting fifth. Hogenson placed third in the 300 meter hurdles. McDonald followed that up with fourth and Quincey Jensen got sixth place.

Leishman, McDonald, Hogenson and Cora Matt arrived in third in the 4x100 meter relay. Leishman, Jensen, Kain and Hogenson got second in the 4x400 meter relay.

Matt took second in the shot put finals and fourth in the javelin finals.

For the Bulldog boys, Lex LaFrombois took third in the 100 meters with Dakota Zeiler placing fourth and Davidson Strysko earning sixth. Zeiler also got third in the 200 meters.

Boyd Kain and Isaiah Gariepy earned fourth and sixth place respectively in the 800 meters. Gariepy also got fifth in the 1600 meters and second in the 3200 meters. Cage Salmelin placed sixth in the 300 meter hurdles.

LaFrombois, Salmelin, Strysko and Zeiler claimed second in the 4x100 meter relay. Strysko, Zeiler, Kain and Marcus Fyant got third in the 4x400 meter relay.

Salmelin nabbed first in the discus finals. LaFrombois got first in the high jump and long jump finals as well to wrap up the top finishers for Mission.


Arlee, Charlo, Two Eagle River all notch top finishes 

It was a packed meet on May 15 and May 16 in Missoula when Arlee, Charlo and Two Eagle River faced off in the 6B, 13C and 14C District Meet.

For Arlee, Ava Van Maanen got first in the 800 meters while teammate Karma Tibbetts placed fifth. Van Maanen also finished first in the 1600 meters.

Izabella Knoll got fourth in the shot put. Tibbetts got first in the pole vault, second in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump.

For the Arlee boys, Trevor Van Maanen got sixth in the 400 meters and second in the 1600 meters.

Van Maanen, Eli O’Neill, Dean Moran and Cash Wills claimed fifth in the 4x100 meter relay. Van Maanen, O’Neill, Marshall Hinther and Dustone Cyrus arrived in fifth place in the 4x400 meter relay.

O’Neill took top honors in the shot put, second in the discus and sixth in the javelin. Riley Johnson got fifth in the javelin as well. Orrin Johnson placed second in the high jump with Wills getting sixth. Moran placed sixth in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump.

For the Charlo girls, Avery Coleman got sixth in the 100 meters. Abbigail Wagner placed third in the 1600 meters. Brooke Cahoon earned second in the 100 meter hurdles and third in the 300 meter hurdles.

Wagner, Coleman, Cahoon and GG Hawk got third in the 4x100 meter relay.

Olivia Carnell captured first in the shot put with Eva Carnell getting fifth and Cahoon getting sixth. Olivia Carnell also placed second in discus. Wagner got fifth in javelin with Coleman getting sixth.

Cahoon captured first in high jump with Izabelle Maughan getting third. Hawk claimed third and Olivia Carnell got fourth in the pole vault.

Hawk turned in a first place finish in the triple jump while Jaylynn Buxbaum placed third. Buxbaum also took fifth in the long jump. 

For the Charlo Boys, Tasker Brown got fourth in the 400 meters and fifth in the 110 meter hurdles. Kenyan Dumont got fourth in the 800 meters, third in the 1600 meters and second in the 3200 meters.

Sean Madden, Dalton Carey, Colter Roylance and Jacob Maughan got second in the 4x100 meter relay.

Brown earned first in the shot put and second in the discus. Karson Cox placed first in the discus, first in the javelin, first in the pole vault, third in the long jump and first in the triple jump.

Roylance got third in the javelin and fourth in the pole vault. Dumont placed fifth in the pole vault as well. Carey got sixth in the long jump and second in the triple jump. Brown placed fourth, Maughan fifth and Dumont sixth, all in the triple jump.

Finally, Two Eagle River saw Christine Tenas take third in the 100 meters and sixth in the 200 meters. Goddess Barrett X and Chardae Tenas placed fifth and sixth in the 800 meters, respectively. Barrett X also got fourth in the 1600 meters.

Christine Tenas placed fourth in the long jump and fourth in the triple jump.

For the Two Eagle River boys, Anthony Sheridan placed fifth in the 800 meters. Sheridan, Chief Barrett X, Jesus Barrett X and Gregory Plummer got third in the 4x400 meter relay.

Jason Trahan took third in the triple jump to round out all top six finishers.
