Polson baseball was the final team vying for a state tournament spot, with Ronan baseball closing out their season as well. Despite Polson falling short of that goal, they managed to take home one last victory to close out the regular season.
Polson 10, Whitefish 0
It would’ve taken a lot to make state but a win over Whitefish to close out the year is a high note on May 21.
The defensive matchup was all Polson needed to make this game a no-contest. They took a 2-0 lead after the first inning and all they needed was to keep Bulldog runners away from home plate.
A masterclass in pitching from Polson’s Cody Haggard gave them the boost they needed to keep the lead. A single run in the third and seven runs in the fifth were plenty to topple Whitefish 10-0 after five innings.
Haggard didn’t need a lot of strikeouts to have a good performance as he only allowed three hits and notched one strikeout. Haggard also earned the top hitting performance with two RBIs on two hits and three runs scored.
Lincoln County 9, Ronan 0
Ronan closed out their season on May 19 with a tough loss to Lincoln County.
The Lions claimed an early lead and never relented. They went on to score in four of six innings, with a three-run sixth inning clinching this one. In a game of offense for most of it, Ronan tried their best to find opportunities on base, but they couldn’t find a way on due to the Lions’ strong pitching.
Ronan only managed one hit in this game, courtesy of Everrett Lozeau, as they fell 9-0.
