Michael Glenn LaPlant was born July 9, 1954, to Virgil and Vera (Jerry) LaPlant in Hereford, Texas. When he was two years old, they moved to Moses Lake, Wash., and settled at the family farm outside of Ephrata. He was active in 4-H, raising and showing steers at the Grant County Fair. He graduated from Ephrata High School in 1972.
