Thrift store opens in Bonners Ferry

BONNERS FERRY — The white building south of Super 1 Foods has been several things over the years, but as of the beginning of September, new shopkeepers have stepped in. MaryAnn and Sandi’s Thrift Store and More unlocked their doors on Sept. 3 and allowed shoppers to browse the store as they brought items in and set up shop. MaryAnn Gromley and Sandi Sullivan partnered to make their idea come to life.

CCS, 'Heather's House' seeking new home

When Sandpoint resident Heather Gibson had the vision to create a community cancer center for people seeking support after receiving a cancer diagnosis, she wanted the place to be warm, welcoming and in no way to resemble a medical office. She gathered her friends, and together they worked and opened Community Cancer Services in 2003. Just prior to Heather’s death in 2006 from breast cancer, the nonprofit organization named their place “Heather’s House.” Today, Heather’s vision continues to thrive and make a difference in the lives of countless people fighting cancer, their families and their caregivers.

SPOKANE — Despite a scare late in the fourth quarter, the No. 5 seed MLCA/CCS Lions held on to advance to the 1B boys state quarterfinals with a 58-54 win over the No. 12 seed Sound Christian Lions on Wednesday night, surviving to leave the Spokane Arena with a state playoff win. The game flipped in the third quarter, where MLCA/CCS held Sound Christian to just five points. Sound Christian rallied late in the fourth quarter, nearly erasing a 10-point MLCA/CCS lead before falling short of the comeback win.
