Whitefish police spotted the erratic driving at Fourth and Spokane late Thursday, then ended up charging the 22-year-old woman behind the wheel with DUI and possession of dangerous drugs. She also was wanted on two county warrants.

Whitefish police didn't get a chance to collect their own evidence after the motel clerk called to say they had found blood everywhere in a room after the guest checked out. The clerk had taken plenty of pictures before calling police, but housekeepers had cleaned up before police could get there.

BLM launch at Blackwell Island opens today

The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Blackwell Island recreation site and boat launch on the Spokane River at Coeur d’Alene will open today. The 134-space parking lot and four-lane boat launch at Blackwell Island offers picnicking, a native plant garden and wildlife viewing along the nature trail. The site is open daily from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. through mid-October.
