SANDPOINT — The Lake Pend Oreille School District will host its third annual Student Safety Summit on Wednesday, April 15 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Sandpoint High School.

This year’s event will focus on mental health with three sessions covering different aspects of the topic. Those sessions will be presented by mental health professionals and community members and focus on student mental health and wellbeing, suicide awareness and prevention and how to support your child through a faith-based lens.

“The health and safety of our students is a community effort,” LPOSD officials said in a press release. “This summit gives parents, mentors and caregivers of all kinds a chance to learn from mental health professionals and local faith leaders about how to support kids through challenges big and small. Conversations like these are never too early, and everyone is welcome to attend.”

The summit is open to any community member interested in attending, not just district parents. LPOSD officials said there will be free food and childcare on-site thanks to donations from Bonner General Health and Kaniksu Community Health.
