BONNERS FERRY — Bonners Ferry High School could not get past Coeur d’Alene in both games of a doubleheader, losing by four and five runs respectively. Wearing special uniforms for military appreciation day, the Badgers scored three runs in both fixtures on April 11.
Game 1: Coeur d’Alene 7, Bonners Ferry 3
Colson Baisden and Kordale Burt each had two hits for the Badgers, who held CDA scoreless for three innings before a tough fourth inning proved costly.
Tyson Dickson and Baisden each doubled, but the Badgers struck out 10 times. Maddox Mertzweiller and Baisden each collected an RBI.
Stryder Liermann hit leadoff and started pitching, giving up two earned runs in four innings. Gordon Woelfle followed on the mound and finished the game with three innings, collecting four strikeouts.
Neither team threatened at the beginning of the game, but an error followed by Dickson’s double gave the Badgers runners second and third with one out. However, a flyout and strikeout ended the threat.
In the bottom of the third inning, Bonners Ferry started a two-out rally. After a walk and hit by pitch, a single by Jake Solt nearly scored a run, but Jack Woods was thrown out at home.
Three singles in the top of the fourth, combined with an error, got the scoring started with a four spot for CDA.
Bonners Ferry responded with one run in the fourth, as Baisden’s double scored Mertzweiler.
Two quick outs in the top of the fifth spelled hope for the Badgers, before a double and single tacked on another run for Coeur d’Alene. Another run was plated in the sixth inning.
Singles from Burt, Ronin Hanson and Baisden gave the Badgers two runs in the sixth, but that would be all the scoring they mustered, before another run was tacked on in the seventh by CDA.
