BONNERS FERRY — The Badgers, playing in their second home series of the season, were unable to get the offense going in both games of a doubleheader against the Kellogg Wildcats, resulting in two losses.
Game 1: Kellogg 7, Bonners Ferry 1
It was a pitcher’s duel for the first five innings, but six runs from the visiting team blew the game wide open in the fifth inning.
Rebekah McBride, Bentlee Anderson, Hailey Dickson and Ryelle Short all singled for Bonners Ferry. McBride had the team’s only run batted in, scoring Dickson.
Short was the starting and only pitcher for Bonners Ferry in the opener, throwing seven innings, giving up only four hits, three earned runs and striking out an impressive 12 batters.
For the first four innings, both pitchers were mowing down the lineups, with neither side having two batters reach safely in an inning. However, the top of the fifth was one the Badgers would like to forget, as two errors and three walks led to a 6-0 Wildcat lead.
Kellogg added another run in the top of the seventh inning, before Bonners Ferry scored one run in the final frame to avoid the shutout.
