SPIRIT LAKE — Exactly a week after Bonners Ferry High School beat Timberlake at home, the opposite situation occurred, as the Badgers lost both games they played against the Tigers on April 24, dropping to 1-2 in league play and 5-15 overall.

Game 1: Timberlake 9, Bonners Ferry 4

Eight of nine Bonners Ferry hitters reached base safely, but none reached twice as Timberlake pulled away in a crucial five-run bottom of the sixth inning of game 1.

Gavin Rider and Jack Woods doubled for the Badgers and Keenan Maas scored a run and collected an RBI.

Ronin Hanson, Colson Baisden, Kordale Burt and Maas all singled, but four runs did not prove enough in the game.

Stryder Liermann pitched a complete game, throwing 87 pitches. He gave up just three earned runs, adding two strikeouts as three errors cost the Badgers.

Woods’s double in the top of the first gave Bonners Ferry the lead, which held until the bottom of the third inning, as Timberlake tacked on two runs. They would add two more in the fifth to take a three-run lead.

In the top of the sixth, Burt, Maas and Hanson singled to plate two runs and trim the deficit back to one run.

However, six of the first seven batters reached for Timberlake in the bottom of the inning as they built a commanding six run lead.

A Maddox Mertzweiler sacrifice fly scored one in the top of the seventh.

Jack Woods added two hits, Keenan Maas doubled, Tyson Dickson and Colson Baisden singled, but Bonners Ferry could not get the offense going on a day they would like to soon forget.

12 of 13 batters reached in one first-inning span with the Badgers stranded out on the field. Four more runs were plated the inning after by Timberlake. Despite not scoring after the second inning, the game was declared over after five innings.

Jack Woods pitched very well in the loss, allowing just one hit in three scoreless innings, with three strikeouts to boot.
