SANDPOINT — The City Council is holding a special planning workshop today at noon in the council chambers.

During the meeting, the councilors will be reviewing the city’s current strategic plan and master plans to get a sense for where the city is and where it’s going. Sandpoint Mayor Jeremy Grimm said in a memo to the council that he hopes they use the time to develop the framework of their own plan that he will use to guide administrative operations.

“It's my hope that by going through that process and reviewing all the master plans, we can come to some consensus on where we're all on board and what we all want changed,” Grimm said at the council’s Jan. 7 meeting.

At the Jan. 21 meeting, Council President Deb Ruehle asked that all councilors bring three priorities for the city, both for the next year and next five years.

In addition to a high-level review of the master plans, Grimm said at the Jan. 21 meeting he hopes the council will further discuss a potential local option tax for the May ballot. The council briefly touched on that topic at its Feb. 4 meeting, where most councilors said they support the idea of a narrow scope LOT.

The event is expected to run for several hours and is open for the public to attend, both in-person and virtually. The mayor’s full kickoff memo and information on the meeting can be found at sandpointidaho.gov/meetings.
