MISSOULA — The Sandpoint Sasquatch 17U couldn't keep up in the first three games of the Missoula Mavericks Invitational on Thursday and Friday evening.

Tri-County 16, Sandpoint 4 (5)

MISSOULA — A late offensive burst from the Sandpoint Sasquatch wasn't enough to get past a nine-run first inning rally by the Tri-County Cardinals on Thursday afternoon.

The Cardinals immediately jumped on Sasquatch starter Asher Cramer, knocking in their first of nine runs with the second batter at the plate. From there, Tri-County continued to go after Cramer, who was not helped by two errors committed by Sandpoint during the inning.

Sandpoint High's Chase Miller came in to relieve Cramer and battled valiantly. Across two innings, Miller allowed just two runs off three hits and three walks.

By the time Sandpoint found its offense in the fourth, they were trailing 12-0. Back-to-back singles from Erik Hansen and Blake Bogadi helped drive in the first run of the game for the Sasquatch. Trevor Tadic's ensuing groundout scored Carson Resso to cut the lead to 12-2, though it would be the last run of the inning for Sandpoint.

Three singles and a sprinkling of walks allowed Tri-County to extend their lead once again to 16-2.

Down to their final three outs, Sandpoint continued to battle. Miller got the party started with a single, followed by a walk worked by John Holman and Austyn Young, taking a hit-by-pitch to load the bases. A Cardinal error allowed Resso to reach and score Miller.

Holman would touch home after a passed ball, but eight pitches later, the Sasquatch were out of time, falling 16-4 in the opening game of the tournament.

Missoula 10, Sandpoint 2 (5)

MISSOULA — Sandpoint High's Daniel Holman had a stellar day as the Sasquatch dropped their second game on Thursday to the hosting Missoula Mavericks 10-2.

Holman was a perfect 3-3 on the night with a solo homerun in the third inning that contributed to Sandpoint's best offensive inning. The crushed ball to left field is Holman's second of the week after he launched one in the Sasquatch's 8-5 win over the Libby Loggers on Monday.

Much of this game mirrored the first, with the Mavericks scoring early and continuing to add on throughout the shortened contest. While Sandpoint out-hit Missoula, the Mavericks were able to string together hits to drive in runs, with all, but two Mavericks getting a hit on the day.

Holman's brother, John Holman, was another bright spot for Sandpoint, going 2-3 from the plate. Chase Miller continued his strong summer season with a double and a walk in this game. Carson Resso knocked in the Sasquatch's other run, Miller, with a fielder's choice, but earned a single while trying to ignite a late fifth inning rally.

On the bump, Priest River's Broden Collins continued to excel at throwing strikes, not walking a single batter over his two innings. However, the Mavericks were able to get after him in critical situations and only struck out once.

Trevor Tadic came in to relieve Collins and bounced back after a tough performance on Monday. Tadic dealt two solid innings, striking out two and only allowing two hits.

Northern Lakes 15, Sandpoint 7

MISSOULA — Another stellar day for the Holman twins, and Sandpoint High rising senior Carson Resso helped the Sandpoint Sasquatch battle on Friday night in their third straight loss.

The Sasquatch struck first, thanks to Bogadi hitting a single and driving in Erik Hansen, who hit a double to open the second inning. Yet that lead was short-lived as Northern Lakes mashed a double to open the bottom of the second before working two walks to ignite a five-run rally.

Daniel Holman continued his hot streak with a single in the third before John Holman drove him in. Daniel Holman singled again in the fourth to get the Sasquatch within one run and finished the day 2-4 with two singles and two runs. His brother notched a 2-3 day with an RBI.

Arrow Cramer came in to relieve starter Erik Hansen in the second and kept the Sasquatch in the game late with some shutdown innings. Cramer notched three and one-third innings, giving up only four runs on nine hits and striking out one batter.

Sandpoint's offense found its footing again late in the sixth inning, thanks to Resso's second double of the day, which drove in Austyn Young to cut the Mountaineers' lead to 9-6. Three straight singles from Blake Bogadi, who ended the day with two RBIs, Broden Collins and Trevor Tadic loaded the bases, but Daniel Holman couldn't capitalize.

Despite the rally, a Sasquatch error and triple by Mountaineers' Parker Byrd allowed Northern Lakes to retake the momentum and extend their lead. The Mountaineers never looked back, adding six runs in the final frame of the game to seal the fate of the Sasquatch.

The Sasquatch are set to play the Lethbridge Lakers Legion at 10 a.m. in Missoula, looking to win their first game of the tournament.
