SANDPOINT — It’s safe to say it hasn’t been a bad last few months for Sandpoint High School senior Sage Medeiros.

First, he helped Sandpoint claim their first state title in 20 years. Then on Wednesday, he was named the Idaho 5A Baseball Player of the Year. It’s not hard to see why the 6-foot-3 right-handed pitcher earned the nod after he went 11-0, leading the 5A classification with 84 strikeouts and 0.76 ERA. Medeiros held opponents to a .132 batting average and .219 on-base percentage.

He didn’t just get it done while toeing the rubber, though. At the plate, Medeiros batted .346 with three homeruns and 33 RBIs last season, bringing his career batting average at .299. The Spokane Community College commit shined in the month of May, hitting five RBIs against Skyview on May 16 and striking out 10 batters against Lewiston on May 1.

The awards for the state champions didn’t stop with Medeiros, as the Bulldog’s head coach, Jesse Dunham, won the Idaho 5A Baseball Coach of the Year award. With Dunham at the helm, Sandpoint took home their second state title in school history after two high-scoring contests against Skyview.

The Bulldogs’ best two hitters, Brennan Shaw and Mason Little, also earned All-State first-team honors.

ALL-STATE: Brennan Shaw

As a junior, Shaw was a do-it-all player for Sandpoint last year, hitting .469 and 19 RBIs and stealing a monumental 22 bases. Shaw hit his lone home run last season against Moscow in an 18-0 blowout on April 25.

The 6-foot-1 left fielder also brought a reliable glove in the outfield with a .931 fielding percentage and 22 putouts. Shaw also made 11 appearances on the mound, going 1-1 while striking out 23 and holding batters to a .214 batting average. He notched five of those strikeouts against Lake City on April 7, a season high for Sandpoint’s rising star.

ALL-STATE: Mason Little

Serving as Sandpoint’s infield anchor, Little batted .452 across 107 plate appearances, knocking in 34 runs on 10 doubles, two triples and three home runs. The senior infielder was an integral part of the Bulldogs’ state championship run, driving in 10 runs in the final two games, including a seven RBI game against Skyview on May 15.

Two of Little’s three home runs came in the state playoffs, against Twin Falls on May 14 and the other contributed to the stellar game on May 15. The Lassen Community College commit also boasted a fielding percentage of .958 with 24 putouts, 45 assists and eight double plays.

ALL-STATE: Dallen Williams

Williams is Sandpoint’s lone representative on the All-State second team. The 6-foot-3 senior went 4-1 in nine appearances on the bump for the Bulldogs, striking out 47 batters across 37.2 innings. Williams held his opponents to a .235 batting average en route to a 2.42 ERA.

At the plate, Williams was another significant contributor to Sandpoint’s high-powered offense. The outfielder’s .447 average was third best on the team, trailing only Little and Shaw. Williams’ 12 doubles and two triples helped him drive in 30 runs, which included six RBIs in the Bulldogs’ final two games against Skyview.

All-State first team: Sage Medeiros, sr., Sandpoint; Carter Bowen, sr., Bonneville; Chase Casagrande, so., Bishop Kelly; Maddox Stadelmeir, sr., Twin Falls; Ayden Body, sr., Bishop Kelly; Jake Redder, sr., Burley; Conner Thomson, sr., Preston; Mason Little, sr., Sandpoint; Colin Brazil, jr., Bishop Kelly; Hoyt Murray, sr., Twin Falls; Jaxson Brady, jr., Bishop Kelly; Brennan Shaw, jr., Sandpoint
