Sandpoint 7, Kennewick 5

COLFAX — Bouncing back after a loss earlier in the day, the Sandpoint Sasquatch 17U tallied 12 hits to beat the Kennewick Dusters AA 17U 7-5 on Friday.

Two more Sandpoint High rising seniors, Daniel Holman and Andrew Aexel, delivered in the sixth to clinch the game for Sandpoint. Holman drove in Sandpoint High rising senior Carson Resso, who singled and made it to second off a wild pitch, to score the Sasquatch's sixth run of the game. Aexel delivered the finishing blow with another single to score Holman from third base, his second RBI of the game.

Priest River High School rising senior Broden Collins ignited the Sasquatch offense with a double in the fourth, helping Sandpoint reclaim the lead. The Spartans’ star was driven in by Sandpoint High School rising junior Chase Miller and finished the day 2-4 from the plate.

Collins’ multi-hit day was one of two for the Sasquatch, with the other coming from Sandpoint High School rising senior Austyn Young. He also finished the day 2-4 with two singles.

Landon Day, of Sandpoint High, joined Aexel in the multi-RBI club. Day made the most of his plate appearance with a two-run single in the fourth to cap off the Sasquatch’s highest scoring inning.

Miller got the start on the mound, allowing only four hits and striking out one through four solid innings. The Dusters got after Miller in the third, with a two-run double from Giffen Pinola-Kelley briefly giving Kennewick the lead.

Young and Cash Crateau came in relief of Miller, with Crateau delivering a shutdown seventh inning to clinch the game. Crateau started his inning with two strikeouts, the first swinging and the next looking, before inducing a flyout to Holman to close out the game.

Walla Walla 7, Sandpoint 1

PULLMAN — Despite Sandpoint’s hot streak at the plate continuing, they were unable to propel themselves past the Walla Walla Bruins in the final game of the Palouse Summer Series on Saturday.

A two-hit day from Cash Crateau helped the Sasquatch out-hit the Bruins, but Sandpoint was unable to generate consistent offense. Their lone run came in the fifth after Crateau singled, stole second and reached third on a passed ball. The Bruins’ lone error on the night allowed Crateau to score, but a strikeout and a fielder’s choice quickly ended any momentum the Sasquatch had.

Crateau’s other hit was a triple in the seventh, but two quick outs sealed the Sasquatch’s fate.

Walla Walla was able to capitalize on six walks and three errors from Sandpoint. In the top of the fifth, the Bruins took advantage of two singles, a walk and a throwing error by Austyn Young to extend their lead to 5-0.

Despite giving up four earned runs, Sandpoint High’s Parker Reichart had a great day on the bump. The Spokane CC commit fanned eight batters over five innings while only walking four.

Crateau finished off the game, allowing one earned run and striking out two through two innings.

Sandpoint finished 1-2 in the Sele Group of the Palouse Summer Series, missing the playoffs, but ended the weekend 2-2. The Tri-Cities Titans, who beat the Sasquatch 12-3 on Friday, took home the title after beating the Coeur d’Alene Lumberman and Kalispell Lakers Sr. on Sunday.

The Sasquatch are scheduled to return home on Monday, June 22, for a showdown with the Northern Lakes Mountaineers at 6 p.m.
