SHS seniors continue teaching Spanish at SLC

SANDPOINT — Seniors from Sandpoint High School returned to Sandpoint Learning Center to continue teaching Spanish to the younglings last week.

Spanish 202 students have been making trips to the youth center in an effort to encourage early learning of a second language. Mary Imax, the Spanish teacher at SHS, said students read books focused on feelings and colors, purchased thanks to a mini grant from Underground Kindness, an education-focused nonprofit.  

This past Thursday, Imax said students taught the preschoolers the days of the week in Spanish by signing “Lunes Martes” and read them bilingual books, building on their last visit in January. 

“We were awarded a mini grant from Underground Kindness to support our mission of promoting early second-language learning and raising awareness about its lifelong benefits,” Imax said.  

Imax said the class already has plans to return to SLC multiple times before the school year ends in June.
