RATHDRUM — “Last year we took the girls and a boy. This year, I hope to take both,” Blackmore said. 

That was a quote at the beginning of the golf season from Bonners Ferry head coach Travis Blackmore, who spoke about his desire to see both the girls and boys teams qualify for the state playoffs. On May 4, he got his wish. 

Bonners Ferry beat Timberlake at the 4A District 1 tournament at Twin Lakes Village Golf Club on Monday to secure their spot at state, which will be held in Eagle from May 11-12.  

Freshman Patrick Young continued his stellar form this season, with a score of 75, which was 19 strokes better than second place. Bonners Ferry boys golf beat Timberlake by just 16 strokes, 377 to 393. 

Gabe Warren and Tyler Cordle shot 100 for the Badgers, with Kai Aiken shooting a 102 and Marvin Michaels a 112.  

On the girls side, Bonners Ferry shot a 464. Nolie Hiatt and Callie Bateman tied for the lead with a Timberlake golfer with a 108. The Timberlake golfer won by a single stroke in the second playoff hole. 

Eleanor Sheets (118), Lilly Bremer (130) and Sondra Fairchild (131) helped ensure that Bonners Ferry will send both boys and girls to state.
