BONNERS FERRY — Bonners Ferry’s Sulay Abubakari recently committed to continue his basketball career at Southwest Oregon Community College in Coos Bay, Oregon.

A two-time state champion, the 6-feet-7-inches Abubakari had a tremendous senior basketball season for Bonners Ferry, leading the team as one of three seniors.

Abubakari averaged 17.4 points, 10.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals for the Badgers, who made the state championship game.

Bonners Ferry Head Coach Greg Kissee said that Sulay has been a huge part of the Badger basketball program.

“He has won 2 state championships and went to a 3rd,” Kissee said. “Sulay is a hard worker and developed a lot this year. He had some huge games for us."

“He loves the game of basketball and I am so proud of him and excited he gets to play at the next level. He will be missed.”

Abubakri also played football, catching 12 passes for 172 yards and 3 touchdowns in his senior season. On the defensive side, he led the Badgers with 3 fumble recoveries, adding 2 sacks and 33 total tackles.
